What happens if you become the landlord and roommate of your new spoiled Chaebol boss?

That’s a question hardworking Seo Jae Yoon is about to find out.

The new Korean BL Roommates of Poongduck 304 brings back Kissable Lips stars Kim Ji Woong (Ji Ho Joon) and Yoon Seo Bin (Seo Jae Yoon) in a comedic love/hate drama about two unlikely men in an unexpected situation.

In an amusing first two episodes with equally fun support roles by gay musician Holland and Once Again actor Kang Woo Jung, Roommates of Poongduck 304 offers viewers a light enemies-to-lovers drama full of crazy coincidences.

After weeks of watching emotionally deep, nuanced projects, Roommates is a welcome mental respite, a well-filmed romcom that immediately delves into the main leads’ vast lifestyles differences.

And it starts with the need for a good shower.

I love when dramas offer quirky character traits. It not only adds depth to a series, it adds a unique touch that makes a character memorable. Financially cut off by his father, the unfortunate Chaebol Ji Ho Joon’s need for a showerhead with excellent water pressure is the quirky trait that leads him to the apartment he later shares with Seo Jae Yoon.

Although the relationship between the two leads doesn’t develop much beyond their mutual dislike for each other in the first two episodes, we are offered an exciting glimpse at the rocky road to come.

Along with the quirky shower obsession Ho Joon has, I like how Roommates of Poongduck 304 introduces Jae Yoon’s sexuality. With quick camera pans to Jae Yoon’s phone as he stresses over a text, a peek at a picture of Jae Yoon with a man, and a conversation with Jae Yoon’s female co-worker, it’s immediately made evident that Jae Yoon is gay. I like the subtle way it’s revealed by avoiding over-the-top reactions to men and focusing on the subtleties of his everyday life. For most of us, being gay is a quiet thing that’s a part of us. It’s something that isn’t written in red marker across our foreheads but is just as apparent if others pay attention.

From the shower obsession to the bickering relationship between the leads to Jae Yoon’s same-sex attractions, Roommates of Poongduck 304 has a strong start that promises laughter, intense chemistry, and possible plot twists.

And I plan to enjoy the ride.
