“My Tooth Your Love” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

A tsundere dentist.

A bar owner with a toothache.

With this alone, the Taiwanese drama My Tooth Your Love is guaranteed to have the freshest breaths in the BL genre while also promising a refreshingly original story that takes dental phobia and turns it into love.

Starring actors Andy Wu (Bai Lang) and Snoopy Yu (Jin Xun An), My Tooth Your Love opens with a carefree bistro owner who is quite literally a pain in the mouth to his older, worried sister and the dentist she asks to care for him.

The pain-filled Bai Lang and his stubborn run-in with dentist Jin Xun An don’t exactly scream romance, but that’s nothing a little earthquake, a plant, and Bai Lang’s overprotective sister can’t fix.

Life has an unexpected way of throwing people together, and My Tooth Your Love intends to prove precisely how quirky fate can be.

Although we spend the first two episodes mainly being introduced to the main leads, their backgrounds and personality traits, the drama maintains a consistent pace that never bores, the music is good, and the interactions between the actors are natural and full of chemistry.

The story hints at trauma and emotional turmoil, which, if done right, always immediately draws me into a series. Considering this drama is by the same people behind the Taiwanese We Best Love series, I have high expectations. And with Alex Chou (Zhou Cheng Hao / “Alex”) a part of the supporting cast, I look forward to the secondary love story to come.
