After a short hiatus last week, we are back with our weekly feature on BL announcements. Let’s take a dive into the Boys’ Love shores!

The Rise of the BL Genre in Taiwan

Taiwan is well known for producing quality work in television, and the ‘Boys Love’ genre is no exception. The country has given us the incomparable ‘HIStory’ franchise and other notable works such as ‘Plus and Minus’ and ‘My Tooth Your Love’. Sadly, there are not as many projects released from Taiwan as compared to Korea and Thailand, but this year seems to be a turning point. Five months into 2023 and Taiwanese production companies have already announced 7 different projects, a majority of which are already filming and will be released very soon. Four of these projects originate from the same production house ‘Vidol’. Vidol made a commitment at the beginning of the year to release 4 full length BL series in 2023, a huge undertaking and the first of its kind in Taiwan. The stories range in genre as well, from office romances to organized crime and artificial intelligence. Needless to say we can’t wait to see what the second half of 2023 has in store for us.

Heroin The Series

Hollywood Thailand, the production house which gave us the incomparable ‘Love Sick the Series’ has partnered with Golden Dog in China to recreate the most talked about BL series of all time, ‘Addicted-Heroin’. The original version of this series was released in China in 2016 but due to the countries censorship laws the production house was ordered to cease airing the series just before the final episode. This remake will be our chance to finally see how the story ends.

Synopsis:

Ever since he was young, Bai Luo Yin had been living with his father. Their life was not the stuff of fairytales as his father was very poor and very careless. After he turned 16, his mother announced she would be remarrying a richer more affluent man, this man had a son the same age as Bai Luo Yin. Through a twist of fate, the two step brothers end up being placed in the same class, unbeknownst to them. With time, they slowly develop a different kind of feeling for each other.

Stay

Upcoming Pinoy BL drama ‘Stay’ will be having its world premiere and press screening in Los Angeles on May 19, 2023 at the Philippine Consulate General. Three episodes of the series will be shown to the press and select guests. The entirety of the series is expected to premiere in June for free on YouTube. the lead roles will be played by Sebastian Castro and Ellis Gage.

Synopsis:

Andre, a film maker from the Philippines gets a chance to work in Los Angeles temporarily. He finds a Korean-American roommate, Joshua, online who helps him navigate the challenges and uncertainties of living in America. The two develop a bond, but what happens when it’s time for Andre to go back home?

Be My Favorite

Jittirains novel ‘Be My Favorite’ has been adapted into a TV series under GMMTV. Several of her works have been produced by GMMTV namely ‘Vice Versa’, ‘Theory of Love’ and ‘2gether’ she is popular for writing feel-good romances, and her latest work starring Gawin Caskey and Krist Perawat is promising to follow suit.

Synopsis:

Kawi believes he’s been handed a string of bad luck. He doesn’t have close friends, he is in debt, his father passed away and the girl of his dreams is marrying a man he’s always despised. A crystal ball allows him to travel back in time and change his fate, make different decisions and get the woman he has always wanted. But changing the past doesn’t have the result he would have expected.

Will They Find a Spark?

Blacksheep, a Philippines based production house presents the first ever Pinoy BL dating reality show called ‘Sparks Camp’. 10 single guys will go outdoors to look for their spark. The faces and names of all participants are being kept under wraps, all that has been revealed is the personality of each contestant. The show will be hosted by Miss. Mela Habijan, the former Miss Trans Global, and will be available to watch on their official YouTube Channel starting this 24th May.

Boyy of God

An upcoming Thai BL series that depicts the lives and loves of a group of Christian boys that play together on a water polo team. Their coach has recently suffered a mental breakdown, and there are rumors circulating that God is punishing him because he violated Gods teachings. This leads the boys to start questioning their own lives and their relationships with each other. What does God have in store for them? Will he punish them for their misdeeds too?

Our Story

If you’re not watching ‘My Story’ the series then you’re probably not familiar with Zeke and Fifth, a side couple which has gathered so much attention in only a few episodes that ‘Oxin Films’ has decided to give them their own series. The couple is played by Hiro Shimoji and Jericho Del Rosario and their series will be part III in the ‘My Day’ saga, effectively making it a trilogy. The drama will be called ‘Our Story’ but no further details have been released regarding when it will be filmed or released.

Build Jakapan Cleared of all Charges

The ongoing dispute between Miss. Poi Patchayamon, one of the writers of ‘KinnPorsche the Series’ and Build Jakapan, one of the actors in the series seems to have reached a conclusion. As you may recall, the two were involved in a dispute after Poi accused Build of several offences, the worst of which being physical abuse. These accusations led to Build parting ways with his agency and losing all of his deals and endorsements. Build denied all the allegations and filed a lawsuit against Poi in February. The case was handled privately and on the 9th of May 2023, both parties released statements that the matter had been resolved. They both admitted to being in a relationship which did not end on good terms. Poi further reiterated that the accusations she made concerning Build were false. He did not abuse her, he did not get her pregnant and force her to have an abortion, and he did not take money and other items she had gifted him and misuse them. In fact, he had returned all items she had given to him. They both wish to put this debacle behind them, in fact Build, already has plans to pick his life where he left off. He has a solo concert next month on his birthday which has already sold out.
