Ask anybody and they will tell you the world of BL is a lot to keep up with these days. There’s a seemingly never ending pile of new shows, returning shows and shows we keep meaning to catch up on. This week was no different as it came with a few surprises. Frank and Lee filmed a whole series in secret, Vietnamese Production house ‘MCV’ released their TIKTOK series ‘Ey Mi Amor’ and Strongberry decided to let fans vote on which series they should produce next. All in all, it was a great week. So sit back and catch up on what happened.

Tokyo in April

Earlier this year MBS renewed its Tunku Drama Shower timeslot, and the lovers of Japanese BL series have been on their toes ever since. MBS have formed a reputation for delivering amazing BL projects such as ‘Eternal Yesterday’, ‘Candy Color Paradox’ and Jacko Frost’. The first series of the season was expected to air in June and they have delivered with an adaptation of Harus comic ‘Tokyo in April’. Yuki Sakurai will play the role of Kazuma Takizawa, a young man who has been in the United States for 10 years. Upon his return he runs into Ren Ishihara (Aroha Takamatsu), his best friend and first partner from middle school. Kazuma is excited to be reunited with Ren but Ren doesn’t want to revisit the past. ‘Tokyo in April’ will premiere on June 15th 2023 on MBS, International fans please stay tuned for further details.

Sastra Film

Lately there has been a noticeable increase in Cambodian BL projects. Sastra Film is the latest production house to join the trend as they are in the process of filming three BL movies which will be released exclusively on their app, the first of which aired on May 25th 2023. For those of us who are looking to try something different, Khmer BLs may be for you, so be sure to look out for ‘Senior and Junior’, ‘Why You’ and ‘Without You’.

Y-Entertainment, the production house behind ‘Unforgotten Night the Series’ has returned with another BL starring Dew Nitikorn and Thor Atagorn, Dew Nitikorn gained popularity after he played the role of Pie in the series ‘Love at 9’, this will be his first leading role. ‘For Him’ is based on the popular novel of the same name by ‘NewAccount’ and it is slated to be released later this year. The story follows Nen (Thor), who meets Him (Dew) at a bar while nursing a heartbreak. What started as a one-night stand becomes more complicated as their lives become entangled? Before long, Nen surrenders himself to himself to Him.

Buddy Line Y Animal: Dinosaur Love

Companies in Thailand are taking on bigger and bigger productions, telling one story with one couple just isn’t enough anymore. ‘Y Destiny’, ‘War of Y’ and ‘My Universe’ are just a few examples of major productions that span months on the air. Ultimate Troop, the producers of ‘Remember Me’ are attempting one such project and it’s called ‘Buddy Line Y Animal’. This project will feature four stories, and the four lead couples are symbolized by the dinosaur, the tiger, the bear and the shark. Each story will be presented as a separate series, the first of which is ‘Dinosaur Love’ starring Pepper Pongpat and Kong Montree. The story portrays Rak, whose partner of 5 years’ cheats on him with Raks own best friend. This new period of hurt gives bad boy hazer Dino the opportunity to hit on Rak. ‘Dinosaur Love’ will premiere on June 25th 2023 on IQIYI.

My Universe: I Wish You Love

Oh Anuchit and Winner Tanatat star in ‘I Wish You Love’. The story of Pon, who is obsessed with looking in the mirror, so much that he has collected mirrors and placed them all over his house. One day, he trips over his own feet and crashes into one of the mirrors. The mirror transports him to a room where a young man is lying on the bed. The man turns out to be Marvin, a friend/ crush he had lost touch with in high school after Marvin became ill. Pon takes this as a chance to finally settle their unfinished business.

My Universe: You Are My Soulmate

The Fourth Installment in ‘My Universe’ starring Mick Monthon (La Cuisine) and Top Piyawat an upcoming actor. The story portrays Son, who grew up in a family that believes if you happen to meet someone three times in your life then that person is your soulmate. But Son is in love with Korn, so he tries to find a way to make Korn his soulmate by any means necessary. Thus begins their mischievous and hilarious story.

My Universe: Lucky Love

This will be the fifth installment in ‘My Universe’ and will star Cheetah Chonphiphat (Work from Heart) and Putter Phubase (Our Days). ‘Lucky Love’ follows Meen who is nursing a heartbreak. He is asked to look after a senior’s restaurant, and that’s where he meets Jeng, a young skilled chef. After tasting Jengs food, Meen can’t get enough of it and that becomes the starting point for their relationships.

My Universe: The Camp Fire

Kaownah and Turbo are back with a new project together in the 6th installment of ‘My Universe’. ‘The Camp Fire’ is a spooky romantic-comedy and the plot is about Camp (Turbo), a young man who is reunited with Talay (Kaownah), a hot senior he had an affair with in the past. The reunion takes place in a haunted courtyard and the conditions force them to get back together.

Love Tractor

Next Entertainment World has finally confirmed the release of ‘Love Tractor’ starring Dowon and Yoon Dojin. When family obligations force Sun Yool, a stressed out law school student, to the countryside, it seems like a great opportunity to escape the chaos of the city. After all, the great outdoors promises fresh air, sunshine… and a new romance? Soon after arriving, Sun Yool is thrown into a series of strange encounters and misunderstandings with his 20-year-old neighbor, Ye Chan. But in spite of Ye Chans bumbling first impression and Sun Yools prickly exterior, the two find themselves drawn to each other. International premiere on IQIYI.

Ever After

‘Ever After’ is an upcoming Pinoy romantic-comedy from KMD studios. The lead actors will be played by Kent Martin Dy, Ace Delos Reyes, Xerxes Chen and Jayson Dimaranan. The story revolves around four high school students, their lives, loves and heartbreaks. ‘Ever After’ is expected to premiere in June, stay tuned for further details.

Matchbox x Strongberry are pondering what story to feature in their upcoming web drama. To cater to the interests of the fans, they have prepared various storylines and are asking fans to vote for the story that resonates with them the most. The first round of voting runs from May 25th 2023 to midnight June 4th 2023 (Korean Time). During this period fans can select up to 3 stories from the five candidate stories that appeal to them the most and they are able to check voting results at any time. The second round of voting, featuring the top two stories, will begin on June 6th 2023.
