Top Ten BL Dramas in 2022

2022 was a GREAT year for the BL Drama. From the supernaturally sweet Vice Versa to the rough and tumble trouble of KinnPorsche there was a plethora of series to choose from. While this list is far from complete, these are my top 10 favorite series in no particular order, except for the top 3 spots, which also have no particular order but are my three most favorite series of the last year.

Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice But to Kiss

Fukuhara Kota (Sota Ryosuke)is a university student with unnaturally bad luck. Shinomiya Naoya (Sato Yusuke) is unnaturally lucky (and INCREDIBLY handsome). Together, they balance one another out, which helps Kota, for the first time in his life, feel like a winner. There’s only one problem. The Luckier Kota gets, the more unlucky Naoya becomes. This series is pure fluff but so much fun. It’s just one of those feel-good series. Worth every minute.

Cupid’s Last Wish

Korn (Earth Pirapat) and Win (Mix Sahaphap) were the best of friends until an event (orchestrated by someone close to them) ripped them apart. Their once-loving relationship turns to hate. Then an accident causes Win to switch bodies with his sister, Lin (Jan Ployshompoo). The only way Win can get back to his body is for him and Korn to reconnect and rekindle the love they once had. This underrated series was a lot of fun. Plus EarthMix just has the most incredible chemistry.

Dear Doctor, I’m Coming for Soul

Prakan (Nut Nutchapon) is a doctor who has devoted himself to saving lives. Tua (Karn Kasidej) is a reaper who helps the dead cross over into their next life. The two are polar opposites, yet somehow, romance sparks between them. This was the first medical BL I ever watched (I saw it before Manner of Death), and it was so much fun. It’s a really well-done series.

Semantic Error

On the spectrum, Chu Sang Woo (Park Jae Chan) is very detail-oriented and laser-focused on his studies. As an artist, Jang Jae Young (Park Seo Ham) couldn’t be more laid back. When Sang Woo causes Jae Young to lose valuable credit towards his graduation, Jae Young makes it his mission to destroy him. But fate has other ideas.

This was one of the most successful series of 2022, and a big part of that, in addition to the acting, is because of how incredible the story and production value are.

KinnPorsche

Kinn (Mile Phakphum) is the son of a Mafia Boss who’s poised to take his father’s crown. Porsche (Apo Nattawin) is a struggling bartender trying to keep his younger brother on the straight and narrow. If you’re reading this, you know about this series and the international explosion it caused. Even Rolling Stone Magazine covered it.

Cutie Pie

Kua (NuNew Chawarin) is the son of one of Thailand’s wealthiest families. Lian (Zee Pruk) is self made. The two are betrothed. But Kua isn’t the perfect little doll he pretends to be.

The chemistry of ZeeNuNew took the BL world by storm and skyrocketed them into the forefront of two of the most famous actors in the genre. Like My School President, this series also has a fantastic soundtrack.

First Love Again

Yeon Seok (Jin Gun) is a famous novelist who has been reincarnated over and over again for the last 300 years, always looking for a happy ending with his first love, Jeong Ha Yeon, who has always been a beautiful woman. However, in this life, Jeong Ha Yeon is a man (Jeon Chang Ha).

It’s a fun and fantastical series that honestly stole my heart.

My School President

Tinn ( Gemini Norawit) has a secret crush on Gun (Fourth Nattawat), the head of the music club and lead singer of the band Chinzhilla. But he’s also the son of the principal, who really, REALLY wants to axe the music club because of past problems they caused her.

The story is cute, the acting is good, but the music is fantastic. This soundtrack was so incredibly amazing. It made me fall in love with the series. I also got the chance to interview Gemini and Fourth.

Eternal Yesterday

Koichi (Komiya Rio) is cheerful and popular. Mitsuru (Inoue Sora) is quiet and shy. Despite their differences, the two are the best of friends. They’re also lovers. But one day, Koichi becomes a corpse, a living corpse, but a corpse nonetheless. Have a box of tissues close by. This series is filled with tears (both happy and sad). It’s one of the most beautiful representations of love and loss I have ever seen.

Vice Versa

Talay (Sea Tawinan) and Puen (Jimmy Jitaraphol) have a near-death experience in our universe and wake up in another. The only way for them to return to their real home is to find the “key” to unlock the door that takes them home. Written by JittiRain (one of my favorite Tai authors) is one of my most favorite ever.

Stay tuned for more!
