The lineup of original series on streaming services is only getting hotter as the summer goes on. This week there are announcements from America to Asia, new and old, sad and happy. Keep reading to get the latest updates-

I Love I Kill You

Patrick Rangsimants novel will be made into a TV series. ‘I Love/Kill You’ is a story about two guys, Phu and Krit, who fall for each other at a psychiatric clinic. They rush into a relationship, get famous on social media, just to end up killing each other a few months later. Patrick Rangsimant is popular for writing supernatural thriller BL novels, currently several of his works are being adapted into Series and Webtoons. Look out for ‘Mystique In The Mirror’ starring Tou Sedthawut and Pentor Jeerapat which has already wrapped up filming and is expected to be released any time soon.

Cherry Magic

’30 years of virginity can make you a wizard’ by Yuu Toyota will not only be getting a Thai adaptation under GMMTV, but a TV animation as well.

Synopsis:

Having never had sex in his life, after Kiyoshi Adachi reaches his 30th birthday he becomes a “wizard”. He develops an ability to hear the thoughts of other people by touching them. One day, he accidently touches his popular co-worker, Yuichi Kurosawa, and discovers that Yuichi is in love with him. While dealing with the awkwardness of being able to hear Kurosawa’s rather forthright feelings towards him, Adachi comes to terms with how much Kurosawa values him and starts to develop reciprocal feelings of his own.

Kiseki: Dear To Me

Taiwanese BL would not be what it is today without the works of writer ‘Lin Pei Yu’. She is the creative mind behind ‘We Best Love’, ‘My Tooth Your Love’, ‘HIStory 1, 2, and 3’ and several others. Her works are definitely something we look forward to every year, and this time she is back with an action packed series titled ‘Kiseki: Dear To Me’. The drama, also known as ‘Miracle’ portrays Zong-Yi, an aspiring doctor who is forced to take care of an injured gangster, Ze-rui. The two get familiar & fall in love. However, Zong-yi is wrongly imprisoned for ZeRuis crime. They’re torn apart, and so are their friends Eddy & Chen-Yi. Four years later fate reunites them all in different ways.

Marry My Dead Body

The Taiwanese Supernatural-Comedy movie will be featured on the global streaming platform Netflix starting next month. The movie stars actors Hsu Kuang Han (Greg Hsu) and Austin Lin. The story portrays a homophobic and straight policeman Wu Ming Han (Greg Hsu), who mistakenly picks up a red envelope while investigating a case. This leads him to meet Mao Mao (Austin Lin), the ghost of a man who died unjustly in an accident. A series of events lead the two into getting married. ‘Marry My Dead Body’ is set to premiere on August 10th 2023.

Tul Pakorn to retire from the Entertainment Industry

Pakorn Thanasrivanitchai, more popularly known as ‘Tul Pakorn’ is one of the most critically acclaimed actors in the Thai BL Industry. He is known for giving an outstanding performance in all of his works, including Together With Me, Saneha Stories 4 and Manner of Death. A few years ago Tul took some time off to complete his studies at the University of Columbia in the United States, and fans have been eagerly awaiting his return to the big screen. There had been rumours of him filming Sammons ‘Transplant’ series, the sequel to ‘Manner Of Death’ upon his return and needless to say it would have been a hit. On July 11th 2023 , Tul took to his Instagram and shared the news that he will be retiring from acting and will be starting his new journey in the real estate business. See his statement below:

The Shards

A TV adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ crime novel “The Shards” is in the works at HBO. The series will be directed by Luca Guadagnino, the same man who directed the infamous ‘Call Me By Your Name’ starring Timothée Chalamet and Arnie Hammer. The story follows Bret, a seemingly typical 17 year old preppy, with jock friends and a popular girlfriend. On the inside though, he’s a budding writer, sleeping with two boys in his class and becoming increasingly obsessed with a serial killer who is targeting his group of friends.

Sparks Camp

Sparks Camp, The Philippines first BL dating reality show wrapped up this past week. The show featured 10 single young men who went to the outdoors in the hopes of finding a spark with a fellow camper. At the finale two couples managed to find their mutual sparks, ‘Alex & Justin’ and ‘Karl & Nick’. Congratulations to the two pairs! Black Sheep, the production company behind the show has stated that we will definitely see the couples again in the upcoming ‘Sparks Camp: Reunion’.

Cherry Magic (Thailand)

After the success of the Japanese series adaptation ‘30 years of virginity can make you a wizard’ by Yuu Toyota will be getting another remake, this time in Thailand. The series will be produced by GMMTV and will star Tay Tawan and Newwie Thitipoom, from the popular series ‘Dark Blue Kiss’.

Synopsis:

Achi, a 29 year old virgin, develops the ability to hear peoples thoughts on his 30th birthday. One day he accidentally touches Karan, a co-worker, only to find out that Karan has secret romantic feelings for him.

My Personal Weatherman

MBS announced its newest Japanese BL to broadcast in the Tunku drama shower timeslot. ‘My Personal Weatherman’ also known as ‘Taikan Yoho’ is adapted from the manga of the same name by Taino Nikke. The series will star actors Kohei Higuchi and Atsuki Mashiko from Genic. The director of the pre-eminent series ‘Old Fashioned Cupcake’ will bring this work to life. The story depicts the relationship between a good-looking weather forecaster and his roommate an erotic manga artist.

Synopsis:

Popular and handsome weather forecaster Segasaki is actually a tyrant at home. Yoh, an ero-manga artist in a tight spot knows this very well, this is because the two of them live together. The agreement is, in exchange for food, clothes and shelter, Yoh must “obey everything that Segasaki says”. What will be the outcome of this agreement? ‘My Personal Weatherman’ is set to premiere on August 10th 2023 and will take over from ‘Tokyo In April is…’ timeslot. International fans stay tuned for further details regarding a streaming platform.

Why Did He Say He Didn’t Like Children?

The novel ‘ไหนเฮียบอกไม่ชอบเด็ก’ by Miss Paob will be adapted into a series by MFlow Entertainment, the production company behind works such as ‘Ai Long Nhai’ and ‘Coffee Melody’. The plot portrays Arrow and Jun who are sworn enemies, their story is changed when Jun catches Arrow ‘giving himself a hand’ by the carp pond.

Y-Star Challenge

An upcoming semi-reality tv program that brings together 12 actors from famous BL series to compete in various skills including singing, dancing & acting. The show will be run by Golf Tanwarin who has directed some notable BL series such as GMMTV’s “The Eclipse”, “Moments of Love”, “Our Skyy 2: The Eclipse”, and “609 Bedtime Story”. The show is hosted by DJ Nan Ratchada and Ommon Phopphatand and will premiere September 8th 2023. The 12 actors who will be featured are :

– Bank Montop and Mos Panuwat, the lead couple from Big Dragon The Series and The upcoming Sunset Vibes.

– Art Pakpoom, the lead actor from ‘What The Duck’ and ‘Till The End of The World’.

– Earth Katsamonnat, lead actor from ‘My Only 12%’ and ‘Until We Meet Again’.

– Lee Long Shi and Frank Thanatsaran, the lead couple from ‘Love Syndrome 3’ and the upcoming ‘Crazy Handsome Rich’.

– Gun Napat, the lead actor in ‘Golden Blood’ and ‘The Luminous Solution’.

– James Pongsapak, who featured in ‘Dont Say No’ and ‘Moments Of Love’.

– Poppy Ratchapong, who featured in the recently concluded ‘Step By Step’ and ‘Cutie Pie’.

– Dun Romchumpa from ‘Gen Y’ Season 1 and 2.

– Kacha Nontanun from ‘The Luminous Solution’.

– Yoon Phusanu, who has played the lead in multiple BL series, most recently ‘Unforgotten Night The Series’.

TokyoPop has licensed 7 new BL manga titles for release in 2024

The lovers of manga will be excited to know that TokyoPop has licensed seven new BL titles for release under its new romance manga imprint LoveLove. They announced this at their panel during Anime Expo on Tuesday. See list below.
