“Jun & Jun” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

Compared to sights, sounds, and images, scents are often overlooked in how they connect people. And yet, the lingering scents of the past remind us of the people we’ve met and the things we’ve been through, good and bad.

The new Korean BL Jun & Jun is a typical office romance that delves lightly into how scent can connect two people while also seductively bringing those same two people closer in the present.

There isn’t anything exceptional about the series. It tells the story of hot company director Choi Jun (Ki Hyun Woo), who is in love (and lust) with his new former idol employee and childhood friend, Lee Jun (Yang Jun Mo).

The first two episodes merely set the stage for a blatant seduction, coincidentally having Lee Jun join a cosmetic company as a recruit under the direction of his childhood friend, Choi Jun.

In retrospect, not much happens in these initial episodes, yet I found it surprisingly addictive.

I rarely find myself drawn into a series without strong storytelling or superb acting. While Jun & Jun isn’t a poorly written drama, it also offers nothing particularly mind-blowing.

What it does offer is seduction and a beguiling tension that somehow manages to keep me glued to the screen. From the scents to the evident electric pull between the director and his recruit, Jun & Jun is more addictive than I thought it would be, and it has much more to do with these two practically trying to wear each other than the story.

For a series full of simmering sexual tension and the possible promise of upcoming angst, check out Jun & Jun now on Viki and Gagaoolala.
