“No. 6” Series Review (Ep.1 to 11)

I didn’t quite know what to expect when I started this utopian/dystopian series from production company Bones (which also produced SK∞ the Infinity). The plan was to watch three episodes do a “First Thoughts” post, then return to it later after doing a few more pieces.

Instead I binge-watched the entire series in one sitting.

No.6 is a flourishing seemingly Utopia created after humanity all but destroyed the world. Sion, is a young boy raised in an elite and privileged environment. But his perfect world is turned upside down after meeting Nezume (Rat), a boy from the wrong side of the tracks – literally. Banished to the outskirts of the city, Sion now finds himself in worse danger as his inquiry into a new series of mysterious deaths results in his being arrested on suspicion of murder! Now, on the run, the two young men have only one chance at survival.

While not exclusively a BL drama, the emotional connection between Sion and Rat is deep and rooted in romance – and they do share a kiss.

The 11 episode anime is based off of a nine-part light novel series written by Atsuko Asano – which is explicitly a BL. While the novels and the series can be purchased on amazon. The series is out of print and tough to find. So, for most fans of owning physical media, eBay is the way to go, I was able to find a decently priced one from Australia. I’m very glad to own it. It’s a beautiful series.
