Adapted from the novel Hua Kai You Shi, Tui Mi Wu Sheng by Shui Qian Cheng, the Chinese BL drama Meet Me at the Blossom brings together talents from China, Taiwan, and Thailand in a bold co-production. Starring Li Le as Zong Zheng Huai En and Wang Yun Kai as Jin Xiao Bao, The series revolves around Jin Xiao Bao, an affluent heir, who becomes infatuated with the mysterious Huai En, as Huai En’s true identity is revealed in dramatic and perilous circumstances.
Although the drama promises a mix of romance and tension, the first two episodes left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. The emotional impact I expected from the characters’ lives and struggles was lacking. As a fervent viewer of Cdramas, particularly the bromances, I perhaps set my expectations too high for the tension and chemistry. The connection between Xiao Bao and Huai En didn’t resonate as powerfully as I had hoped.

However, I deeply respect the significant risks the actors have taken to bring this BL story to life. The production values are commendable, and there is clear potential in the storyline and its execution. The dedication of the cast and crew is evident, and with time, this series could develop into something truly impactful. For now, though, it remains a show with promise that has yet to fully captivate.
For a series with a courageous cast, bringing together three countries in a plot with the potential to capture its viewers’ hearts, consider watching Meet Me at the Blossom on Viki and iQiyi.

As it’s from China, do we assume no sex?
