Imagine being a small-town guy with a rare blood condition, finally stepping into the big city for a new life—only to realize that your blood is basically the vampire equivalent of caviar. That’s Tong’s life in My Golden Blood, and let’s just say, things escalated quickly.
Tong, a sheltered orphan suffering from hemophilia, has spent his entire life wrapped in bubble wrap (figuratively… mostly). Raised in a remote village, he and his best friend Tonkla finally break free and head to Bangkok for higher studies. But city life isn’t just about noodles at 2 AM and bad WiFi—especially when you accidentally land yourself in a den of vampires.
Our rebellious protagonist, feeling self-conscious about his condition, decides to switch things up—by sneaking out, dressing as his best friend, and getting a part-time job. Smart? Questionable. Entertaining? Absolutely. Unfortunately, this genius plan leads him straight into the fangs of the very creatures he was supposed to be protected from. Turns out, his golden blood isn’t just a poetic metaphor—it’s a priceless, mythical substance, and if the wrong people get a taste, we’re looking at a full-blown supernatural war.
The Wait Was Worth It
I have been waiting for “My Golden Blood” since it was announced in 2023. The pilot trailer was chef’s kiss, and as a hardcore vampire lore enthusiast, I was beyond hyped. Two years later, it’s finally here, and I have one word: Joss Way-ar.
This is his first full BL role, and he’s already serving main character energy like a seasoned pro. His brooding stares? On point. His dark circles? Perfectly tormented. His body? Greek god levels of sculpted perfection adds more…depths . Even non-sensual scenes somehow ooze sensuality (yes, I’m talking about that ear bite in episode 1). If vampires were real, I’d be voluntarily signing up for a bite.
Then we have Gawin Caskey, stepping into his second BL lead role after Be My Favorite. Here, he plays Tong—a 20-year-old, sickly, small-town boy who suddenly finds himself surrounded by deadly, bloodthirsty predators. Naturally, his brain short-circuits at the sight of his protector’s ridiculously attractive physique, leading to some truly hilarious (and slightly secondhand embarrassing) gay awakening moments. His performance is refreshingly different from his previous confident roles; instead of the usual suave, self-assured persona, we get an adorably clueless rebel who’s a mix of endearing and chaotic.

Mond as a villain is something I didn’t know I needed. He has appeared for a very short amount of time but has already hooked us with his acting.
A Fresh Take on Vampire Lore (okay not that fresh but…you get my point)
Now, let’s talk world-building. In this universe, vampires can roam around in broad daylight without any dramatic sizzling or sparkles (hehe). And honestly? If you’re going to be a vampire in Thailand, you better develop some sun resistance or get out.
I love how the series carefully establishes its vampire mythology—why the sun doesn’t fry them, how they sustain themselves, if they have more supernatural strengths, and their ongoing struggle to integrate into human society. The slow-burn unraveling of the plot keeps you intrigued, delivering those “OHHH, so that’s how it works” moments.
Sure, there are very recognizable influences from a certain famous teen vampire franchise (you know the one), but that’s part of the charm. Love it or hate it, I’m here for it.

The Aesthetic & The Music
Visually, “My Golden Blood” is stunning. This is Ark Saroj’s second directorial project after Shadow the Series, and you can tell he’s bringing his photographer’s eye to every frame. His signature sensual cinematography makes Mark’s beauty almost illegal. The first episode’s CGI had some… questionable moments, but episode two? Much better. And don’t get me started on the colour grading—absolutely gorgeous.
And finally, let’s appreciate the OST. Closer by Gawin deserves all the praise. If GMMTV doesn’t promote it as their best song of the year, I will personally start a petition.
Final Verdict? I’m Hooked
This show is camp, but also has potential. You either love it or hate it. In my case? Vampires, thirst traps (both literal and figurative), and a rebellious small-town boy caught in the middle of a supernatural mess? Sign me up. My Golden Blood is a wild ride, and I’m strapping in for the whole journey.

When I was a teenager, I loved going to the magazine stand and checking out the cute Disney Channel guys in the latest issue of the teen magazines. (I guess my gaydar was working, since many of them came out after leaving the Mouse House.)
One day I stumbled upon MEN’S HEALTH magazine with it’s artistic photos of incredibly muscular (and a little sweaty) young men. A way different kind of handsome than the TV cuties. Sort of like fluffy & soft vs. envy-inducing & very, very hard.
THAMEPO, PERFECT 10 LINERS, and LOVE SICK 2024 remind me of those white-toothed boys with sparkling eyes smiling at me from the covers of YM and J-14. But after watching the first few episodes of MY GOLDEN BLOOD, it feels like it’s a different breed – a BL version of the brooding, black & white photographed, incredibly cut guys from MEN’S HEALTH.
I agree, 4 out of 5.

Hi James. My apologies that I am so late to see this amazing comment. Joss really an amazing and attractive physique very much different than the usual softer vibe with the “flower boys” image, the typical embodiment of Seme and Uke.
Here both Joss and Gawin are so different. While Gawin is shorter than Joss but I feel both of them very equal and mature than the soft image.
A friend mentioned to me that Joss has the perfect body to be male nude model, the ones that you see sculptures made of. Now that I read your comment she was right. In 3 Will Be Free Joss’s character had a phase of a job as a nude model as well.
Nonetheless, we are seeing a different kind of body image and vibes in this BL. And I thoroughly enjoying it.
