“Heesu in Class 2” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

Love is like an earthquake, unexpected and capable of shaking a person’s world to its core. From secret crushes to heartfelt confessions and crushing rejections, love is a maze of complicated feelings and quiet realizations.

All of which lie at the heart of the new Korean BL Heesu in Class 2. Adapted from the webtoon of the same name by Lily Zuzu, Heesu in Class 2 dives headfirst into the bittersweet chaos of unspoken feelings, teenage confusion, and the tangled mess of first love. The story centers on Lee Hee Su (Ahn Ji Ho), a self-proclaimed dating expert who’s ironically never dated, quietly nursing a decade-long crush on his best friend, Joo Chan Young (Cho Jun Young).

The first two episodes introduce the key characters, focusing on the close-knit friendship between Hee Su and Chan Young before gradually peeling back the emotional layers beneath their bond. Enter Kim Seung Won (Lee Sang Jun), the class president who secretly harbors feelings for Hee Su and also lives next door, and Choi Ji Yu (Kim Do Yeon), Seung Won’s old friend, who’s slowly forming a connection with Chan Young.

Though the narrative is a tangled web, it’s one the series begins to unravel with care. The cast does an excellent job of capturing the emotional chaos and tangled affections of youth. The inclusion of Hee Su’s older sisters is a clever touch, showing that the confusion and intensity of young love don’t simply disappear with age—they evolve.

So far, the series is impressively well-executed. Despite its complex plot and large ensemble cast, it manages to weave each storyline together without losing the viewer. It balances the emotional weight required for an ensemble drama while staying grounded in Hee Su’s personal journey. It’s heart-fluttering, poignant, and leaves you genuinely excited for what’s to come.

As someone who hasn’t read the original webtoon, I’m intrigued by its direction and already rooting for love to win. For a youth drama that tugs at the heartstrings, Heesu in Class 2 is absolutely worth watching. Now streaming on Viki.
