You’ll usually find me watching Thai BLs, but sometimes a Korean BL is just what I’m looking for. Here are 6 shows I recommend for people just getting started with Korean BLs.
Semantic Error
Premise: A rule-abiding computer science student must collaborate with a free-wheeling artist who won’t leave him alone.
An iconic Korean BL that broke the bubble to reach mainstream viewers and global audiences. It’s earned its place with an enemies-to-lovers dynamic, great chemistry, and a solid story. The conclusion may not surprise you, but you’ll enjoy the watch along the way.
Love For Love’s Sake
Premise: A man wakes up to find himself in a game world where his objective is to bring happiness to a budding track star.
This is a melancholy and charming queer romance set in a virtual world where the rules keep changing. I enjoyed the chemistry, even if I found the track star’s growth a bit rushed. A great watch for anyone who’s a fan of the isekai genre in anime.
The Eighth Sense
Premise: A college senior adopts a shy freshman, not expecting their friendship to spark an emotional journey.
This sweet and heartfelt show surprised me with its depth. Unlike many BLs set in university, it skips complete fluff for deeper emotional exploration. I was impressed by how sensitively the budding romance navigates one person’s trauma. It’s my favorite Korean BL.
Jun & Jun
Premise: Lee Jun gives up dreams of stardom to work in an office where he’s reunited with his childhood friend, Choi Jun.
A light and fun office romance with surprising sexual tension. Lee Jun had one too many suitors for such a short series, but the chemistry of the lead pair is fun to watch. A good choice for anyone who loves an office romance.
Roommates Of Poongduck 304
Premise: A building owner dislikes his new tenant, a man recently cut off from wealth, but then discovers the tenant is his new boss at work.
This one is an office romance where the power dynamics switch between work and home. That dynamic adds a fun layer to their relationship. If you like watching competent people succeed at work, this show is satisfying for that reason too.
Our Dating Sim
Premise: A high schooler who disappeared after confessing to his crush reunites with him years later.
A wholesome second-chance romance set in an office. The story actually addresses the consequences of feeling abandoned and their reunion—which is so sweet—feels natural and real. Their chemistry is also fun!
