“Playboyy” Series Review (Ep.1 to 14)
This series is an erotic roller-coaster ride through the world of gay love. If non-gay people want to know what it is like to be gay, then this is the series to watch. Not the idealized versions of BLs. This is what the world of gayness is, whether you want to believe it or not, accept it or not. It is what it is. Sure, it is the darker side, but it is no less real than the ornament sanitized version of what GAY love is via BL. In other words, this is its antithesis. This expresses the real world.

“For Him” Series Review (Ep.1 to 12)
This series is marred by something, and I wrestled with trying to find the most appropriate word to describe that. A word that is strong enough and powerful enough to impart disconnect to what is happening in this series. Finally, I found the precise word: Eschew, which literally means ‘to keep away from or shun, avoid, circumvent, boycott, or dodge’. Quite literally everyone in this series does what he can to avoid telling the truth, or face reality, or abstain from communicating effectively, openly, or honestly. It seems to be the driving force of Thai BLs to be as evasive and elusive as you can to create artificial dramas. This is another sad example of that artifice.

“Shadow” Series Review (Ep.1 to 14)
This show is a horror series through and through. Dealing with evil entities and spiritual witchcraft that made no sense and would have been enjoyable had they made it fun. But the whole story was dark, brooding, almost pointless, and incomprehensible to figure out. It mixed religious beliefs like you were mixing ingredients for a cake batter and expecting us to believe the cake was going to come out looking like something edible. Instead, it was half-baked, and it fell flat. Frankly, I do know what this series was supposed to be. However, I can tell you what it is not. It is not a BL. And it is not scary. It is not mysterious or even a thriller. But it is confusing as hell (no pun intended) wasted the talents of fine actors, and offensive on two fronts. I am rarely offended by anything, but this series was offensive to gay people and to how it portrayed Catholics, and I am no great admirer of the Catholic Church.

“TORE” Series Review (Ep.1 to 6)
Frankly, this is a series that truly spirals into madness about a person who is nearly insentient. Functional, yet lost and absorbed in his own world. His father, Bosse (Peter Haber) is finally going to do something regarding his deadpan son who refuses to live. Tore (William Spetz) exists with his father and works in his father’s funeral business as a mortuary assistant. Suddenly, Tore is given a notice to vacate the house. His dad finally wants Tore to start to experience living his life on his own. Tore’s best and only friend, Linn (Sanna Sundqvist) who literally is part of the family as well, tries to get Tore to see this is for his own good. Feeling and experiencing the world for himself and being on his own will be good for him. She also knows that Tore is gay and needs to explore his sexuality. It does not take long for Tore to also figure out that his father has gotten a girlfriend, and it now seems obvious that he wants him out of the house, so they can live together.
THE BEAUTY AND THE BRAWN IN BAGAN THE BEGINNING
In Part One, the interview with the impresario of BAGAN THE BEGINNING, we connected with the breath of the series. Now we have a chance to discern the beauty and identify the brawn of the characters in the story because we sometimes forget that who carries out these fantasy aspirations are real live human beings who bring themselves into their depictions. Sometimes it is only a little or even just peripherally, while at other times it is substantial. In the case of these three young men, they brought more than most of us realized. For them, it became a labor of love. And a commitment to showcase a culture still steep in tradition and custom yet harnessing the winds of change as it gently breezes through its society, softly, imperceptivity bringing change. Each of them imparted a uniqueness to BAGAN THE BEGINNING that became more than their stunning good looks, which of course they are undeniably blessed with.
