“Khar Taw Mi” Movie Review

I have a confession to make here. I had to watch this series twice to fully appreciate it. I dislike obfuscation and initially felt that is what was going on in this short film. Perhaps because I am from the United States, I like things to be made crystal clear and upfront. Which, of course, this short film does not. Being also inquisitive, I read a variety of comments about this short film which certainly educated me. I realized how myopic and clouded my thinking was. Therefore, I watched it again in light of my newfound appreciation of traditional Burmese culture and Myanmar’s current political climate.

“Healing Thingyan” Series Review (Ep.1 to 3)

This is a charming mini-series composed of three short episodes and a special episode, centering around a sublime and captivating Burmese festival. One gets to sprinkle water on others as a way of symbolically wishing them good luck in the coming year. It is believed that water can fix mistakes, drive out bad luck, and bring greater health and happiness. It is a 3-to-5-day celebration held in Myanmar that is festive and fun and held before their New Year which is in April. I found the festival to be quite beautiful and convivial.

“Playboyy” Series Review (Ep.1 to 14)

This series is an erotic roller-coaster ride through the world of gay love. If non-gay people want to know what it is like to be gay, then this is the series to watch. Not the idealized versions of BLs. This is what the world of gayness is, whether you want to believe it or not, accept it or not. It is what it is. Sure, it is the darker side, but it is no less real than the ornament sanitized version of what GAY love is via BL. In other words, this is its antithesis. This expresses the real world.
