“First Note of Love” Series Review (Ep.3 to 12)

The Taiwanese BL First Note of Love ventures into the universal experience of loss and healing, using music as its emotional language. Led by Charles Tu as Neil and Michael Chang as Sea, the series introduces two characters whose lives converge by chance but are bound by shared dreams and mutual healing. Neil, once an idol, left the stage after his brother Matt’s untimely death. Sea, a budding musician, admires Neil’s former band Magnet, longing to mirror its success. Through this journey, they find solace in each other while piecing together fragments of their dreams.

“Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

In the darkness, there’s always a light, and when that light is love, it shines even brighter amidst the shadows. Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo, a new Korean BL drama, captures this beautifully, blending love and pain in a way that intensifies both. The story follows high schooler Lee Do Hoe (Kim Nu Rim) and his strained relationship with his strict father, the local Taekwondo master. Everything shifts when Sin Ju Yeong (Lee Seon), a cheerful student from Seoul, arrives, bringing hope and warmth into Do Hoe’s bleak world. But soon, the light Ju Yeong offers is threatened by the darkness that Do Hoe has known all his life.

Our Favorite Korean BLs So Far (2024)

A great drama relies on many elements—acting, direction, cinematography, music, and more—to create something that truly resonates. As an emotional viewer, I’m especially drawn to stories that dig deep, even if it takes some effort to piece together the message the series is trying to convey. This definitely applies to the Korean BLs that have resonated with me the most in 2024. Three series, in particular, stood out, checking all the boxes and making each viewing a deeply personal and introspective experience that will stay with me.
