Anytime someone mentions a BL where leads are married and the story actually begins and moves forward around it, I think of Golden Stage. Though Golden Stage is one of the shortest web novels I have read, it is the sweetest fluff and has the most sorted couple I came across in a long time.

The notorious imperial court lackey and the meritorious military general were well-known for their mutual dislike, a pair of arch-enemies set in stone. Who could have foreseen the unexpected change in the winds of heaven: the general injured on the battlefield, both legs disabled, and even forced by the emperor to marry his nemesis.

With one marriage edict, two people with mutual hostility are forced to marry and live under the same roof. Yet after these long days together, they come to the realization that the other is not truly devoid of any saving grace nor is high out of reach.

I liked the cast from the first few chapters itself , two powerful men with different backgrounds & temperament but same goal. Even if one of them is almost crippled, for now, I knew these two were going to have too many sparks flying in every meeting. As the story progresses, and the forced marriage gives space to a reluctant friendship , Fu Shen and Yan Xiaohan were incredible together with so much unexpected sweetness and tenderness.

“Daring to love, daring to hate, directly repaying both kindness and enmity; no one can tie you up aside from yourself.”

The story is fairly political and has many wartime chapters where our couple has to stay away, but the longing never felt bitter. One of my favorite scenes for the couple was during this time , and as much incredulous it feels now, at that time , it was breathtakingly adorable. The amount of hugs that YanFu scenes gave me was so much joy. Them being there to listen , to hold and to talk about everything. This truly was a power couple who portrayed the best of married life. Thanks to the writer for never giving us a misunderstanding between the leads post marriage but the angst & conflict was always from outside forces. They were forever ruthless with the enemies , clever enough to safeguard the kingdom and forever in love. The chapters which detail their past & the wedding scene are worthy to be made into a drama anytime.
