Upcoming Asian BL Dramas- Part XI

With Bad Buddy Series becoming the new Twitter rage, the world is fast succumbing to the charms of the Boys’ Love phenomenon.

While Thai BL shows continue to set precedence over this genre; Japanese, Taiwanese BL’s aren’t far behind. The competition is getting tough, although quantity proceeds quality. In today’s news feature, we will be talking about some of the upcoming fresh stock which seems promising. Without further ado, let’s take a dive into the Asian Subpoena!

Japanese BL

Kei×Yaku: Abunai Aibou

One of the most anticipated Japanese BL ever, Kei×Yaku: Abunai Aibou is based on the pretense relationship between two characters, who are as different as “Day & Night”. Adapted from the manga “Kei×Yaku: Abunai Aibou” by Kaoruhara Yoshie, the show stars popular actors Suzuki Nobuyuki and Inukai Atsuhiro in the lead roles of Kunishita Ichiro and Hanabusa Shiro. Surprisingly, this is Inukai Atsuhiro’s second BL project after “A Man Who Defies the World of BL” and as such, the expectations are pretty high. The storyline promises an interesting romance between a disciplined Police Detective and the young head of a mafia gang. Mafia romances seem to be the favor of the season, but the Japanese backdrop would surely make a world of difference.

Synopsis-

Three years ago, a disappearance case, known as the “Joker Case,” was suddenly closed without being solved. Ichiro Kunishita, an investigator from the Public Security Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department who was called for a reunion of the investigation, is ordered to take on a completely different mission. He is assigned to spy on and monitor Shiro Hanabusa, the young head of a designated gang clan. He is said to be a man of many mysteries who has risen to the rank of Wakagashira (young leading subordinate in yakuza group) since he joined the gang three years ago. In the course of his mission to get close to Shiro, Ichirou learns a shocking fact, and decides to make a fake “lover’s contract” with him. Their secret investigation into the case gradually leads them to an incident that will shake the nation and their destiny.

Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?: The Movie

The excitement surrounding the announcement was fever pitch. The unprecedented success of this BL adaptation has paved the way for a sequel. Yes, you heard it right. Currently, main leads Akaso Eiji and Machida Keita are playing co-stars in the on-air show “Super Rich”. Despite the presence of a formidable female lead, the fervid fans couldn’t stop shipping the characters portrayed by Eiji and Keita. Cherry Magic’s production house seemed to have heard their pleas. And bingo, we are getting a sequel to the super-successful drama. Slated to release on 8th April, 2020, the sequel will be a movie version which will follow Adachi Kiyoshi and Kurosawa Yuichi as they settle into their new relationship and embark on a new journey. Supporting actors Asaka Kodai, Goto Yutaro, Kusakawa Takuya and Sato Ryo will be reprising their roles. We still don’t have any updates about the international premiere. But given the popularity of this franchise, the movie will definitely be streamed on web portals like WeTV or Viki.

Taiwanese BL

Plus & Minus

If you were a fan of Shi Cheng Hao’s chemistry with the Xia twins in “HIStory3: Make Our Days Count”, then this show should be on the top of your watchlist. Paired opposite Max Lin, Plus & Minus will vividly portray the love and collision in the lives of two same-sex couples. No matter how far or near, they only exist for each other.

The show is being co-produced by Taiwanese and Japanese media. Actors Zheng Qi Lie and Matt Lee will be playing the supportive couple. The producers are actively promoting the show on their social media handles and we are totally looking forward to the premiere date!

Thai BL

Coffee Melody

2moons2 star Pavel Naret’s sensational comeback “Coffee Melody” hints at a cafe romance. M Flow Entertainment has been actively promoting their actors and the pictures surely look surreptitious. Paired opposite Benz Panupun, the main leads will portray the character roles of Plengrak and Dueanei. Ice Chissnuphong and Arm Wasawat will be playing the supporting couple Khualok and Namnao. Pavel’s character seems pretty mellow, which is in contrast to his real life personality. Benz has already been in news for his recently on-air drama “Call It What You Want”.
