Favorite BL Love Confession

A love confession is when a person declares their love for another.

For romantic drama enthusiasts, a confession is the climax of the story they invested themselves in on screen, whether it’s a fluffy love story or an emotionally taxing one. Either way, the confession is like a reward, sealing the deal on a drama they’ve made a part of their lives for weeks. And we at the BL Xpress are here to share some of those rewarding moments with you, offering a look into each of our writers’ favorite expressions of love.

Kdarling’s Favorites

Some of the following favorite moments (in no particular order) may not be considered direct love confessions. For me, the best love confessions tend to be either indirect or an action rather than a straightforward “I like you” or “I love you.”

Win and Team – Until We Meet Again

Win: “You can be afraid of anything in this world, but you can’t be afraid of me.”

Although it isn’t precisely a love confession, Win’s evident desire to be a safe place for Team in the Thai BL Until We Meet Again speaks volumes about their relationship. Spoken love is beautiful, but action speaks so much louder. Love is often a safe place amidst the chaos, and for Team, Win offers him that security.

Vegas and Pete – KinnPorsche the series

Vegas: “From now on, you’re no longer my pet. You’re the most important person in my life.”

In KinnPorsche the series, Mafia heir Vegas and bodyguard Pete have a complicated relationship built on pain. Vegas doesn’t trust anyone, and the only emotion he fully understands is hurt. For him, love is allowing someone to become important in his life. Pete becomes that someone, and that’s the greatest love Vegas can offer him. The trust they build between them is cemented in a tearful moment that stays with you long after the drama ends.

Dan and Yok – Not Me

Dan: “Wait for me. Do you understand that? I will not let this go wrong.”

Many might consider this moment between Dan and Yok in the Thai BL Not Me to be the least romantic between them because what follows is deception, betrayal, and fear. For me, I saw it for what it was. Dan loves Yok, and no matter what choice he’s forced to make initially, he still chooses Yok in the end. It’s the “wait for me” that’s important. The “wait for me” marks the beginning, not the end, of their relationship. Sometimes to love, we must endure and overcome. This couple does both.

Sean and White – Not Me

White: “Which version do you prefer? Me as White or me as Black?

Sean: “I don’t know. It doesn’t matter how you look. All I know is that I don’t want the person in front of me to disappear again. Stay with me.”

Maybe it’s the twin in me, but it isn’t the “I love you” or “I like you’s” in the Thai BL Not Me that melted my heart with Sean and White. It was Sean’s acceptance of White’s identity away from his twin, Black. Sean didn’t fall in love with a name. He fell in love with a man he innately knew belonged in his heart. And that is all that matters.

Teh and Oh Aew – I Told Sunset About You

It isn’t a single confession or moment between leads Oh Aew and Teh that stands out for me in the Thai BL I Told Sunset About You. Instead, it is a build-up of moments as they learn to admit to themselves and those around them that they have feelings for each other. For me, this is the point of ITSAY. The entire drama is one big self-love confession. It’s a drama about accepting oneself and then accepting the love that grows while finding yourself. And it is beautiful.

Sang Woo and Jae Young – Semantic Error

Sang Woo: “I keep telling myself to send you away. I know it’s pointless to say this to you. But I like you. I like you, Hyung. I really do.”

For a neurodivergent main character used to living alone and maintaining a specific routine, Sang Woo isn’t easy to get close to in the Korean BL Semantic Error. He isn’t easy to understand, but his greatest enemy manages to do what no one else has. Designer Jae Young creeps into Sang Woo’s rigid heart and makes a home there, leading to an emotional confession that feels as freeing for Sang Woo as romantic.

Kiyoi and Hiru – My Beautiful Man

Hiru: “I love you so much, Kiyoi, that it drives me crazy. I think of you like a god.”

Kiyoi: “I’m not a god.”

For Hiru and Kiyoi in the Japanese BL My Beautiful Man, falling in love is about finding equal ground. It’s about bringing a beautiful young man Hiru has immortalized down to earth. As beautiful as Hiru’s “I love you” is, it’s Kiyoi’s “I’m not a god” that captured my heart. In four words, Kiyoi leveled the playing field, making him touchable. Being held to a certain standard is a lonely place to be in life. Hiru and Kiyoi’s love confession was as much about ending their individual loneliness as it was about finding love together.

Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan – The Untamed

Wei Wuxian: “I used to treat you as my lifelong confidant/soulmate.”

Lan Zhan: “I still am.”

Because of censorship, everything in the Chinese bromance The Untamed is about indirectly expressing certain emotions, especially when it comes to male leads Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan. Although there’s no direct love confession, the moment above is just as powerful. Lan Zhan choosing to remain at Wei Wuxian’s side despite the doubt others feel and the danger being with Wei Wuxian imposes is one of the most powerful moments in television.

Shu Yi and Shi De – No. 1 for You (We Best Love)

Shu Yi: “I, Zhou Shu Yi, like Gao Shi De very much. I love him the most. I like him so much!”

Nothing says love quite like a tearful confession shouted over the side of a bridge. For the insecure Shi De, it’s hard to imagine that the man he’s quietly loved for years could possibly love him in return. But that’s precisely what Shu Yi does in the Taiwanese BL No. 1 For You. He falls in love with Shi De, and the only way to prove it is with an impactful gesture Shi De can’t deny. Although these two have a long way to go after Shu Yi’s bridge confession, it’s the beginning of a romance that will hopefully span a lifetime.

MychelleLove’s Favorites

There are numerous “Love Confession” scenes in the BL world; some are truly adorable and sweet while others seem slightly commercial. At the end of the day, they help to progress the story to the next level. Not all love concessions are straightforward. Some are done with actions, rather than with words. Some are expressed with just a look, while others insist on a grand confession.

Here are some of my favorites-

Ae and Pete in Love by Chance

Theirs is a beautiful love story and the way they confess their feelings was very different. Ae takes time to confess his feelings until he exclaims, “Will you be my boyfriend?”. Pete accepts after he explains to Ae how he feels and then blurts out, “Ae I like you? What should I do now?” I loved the vulnerability depicted by both of them as they confess their feelings for each other. Ae is truly excited when Pete says Yes. This is one of my all-time favorite “Love Confessions”.

Pharm and Dean in Until We Meet Again

Theirs was a love story that stood the test of time and space, each knowing it was love at first sight. The confession happens with their first kiss. Dean asks if Pharm understands his feelings and Pharm nods shyly. So sweet and endearing, this scene depicts teenage romance, with the backdrop of the reincarnation theme. It wasn’t a normal confession but a confession nevertheless.

Tharn and Type in TharnType The Series

Tharntype had a very slow burn confession in the making. Tharn confessed first in a very straightforward manner, “When I said I liked you, I was serious”. Tharn was always clear about his feelings from the get-go. Type struggled with his feelings and finally, in his own way, confessed his love. When he came back from being with Puifai, he confessed to Tharn that he was unable to stay beside her, as he kept thinking about Tharn the entire time. Their romance is very special to me and the way Type confessed his love was truly heartwarming.

These are some of my all-time favorite love confessions. They aren’t your average “I love you” quotes, but are ones that will always have a special place in your heart and make you smile when you reminisce back to these scenes. Confession is good for the soul and in most BLs, there are renditions of different sorts. Share some of your favorites?
