“Fudanshi Bartender no Tashinami” Series Review (Ep.1 & 2)

I really do not know how to describe Fudanshi Bartender no Tashinami, because the way I spent the last hour howling on my couch would describe it as funny, but it does not seem to cover the entirety of what it was. The show is eye-wateringly-hilarious. Especially for the fudanshis and fujoshis out there. There wasn’t even one situation where I could not relate to the guy. I was fangirling, just like him, the entire time.

The plot is pretty much clear from the name itself. There is a bartender who has a stoic and calm demeanor, but on the inside, he is a hardcore fudanshi. He doesn’t let his secret come out, or so he thinks because, in the end, it is revealed that his reactions are not quite on the inside and everybody working with him is aware. His coworkers just stand there, witnessing his frequent breakdowns. Basically, being a silent part of the insanity. What they (people around him) are not aware of is that Soichiro Hibiki (Wada Takuma) likes to pair his male coworkers, with other people. His interests are not just limited to his coworkers as he builds a story around his customers as well. How his obsession started is basically the same as every other fudanshi/fujoshi. One day, he discovered BL by chance and then couldn’t get out of the rabbit hole. Not that he wanted to, hell he contributed to the community, gladly and madly.

His thoughts are too that of a typical fudanshi. He finds a person and instantly deems them a top or a bottom and then proceeds to find their specific type for them. A seme for uke and visa versa. To his boss, he immediately gives him the title of a Uke and then proceeds to find him a Seme. To make matters crazier, he asks his boss to hire another employee just so that he could pair him with somebody. To his disappointment and excitement, his boss hires a uke again. Now he has the tedious task of finding not one, but two semes! All that madness to find one story! Interestingly, all his encounters at work inspire him to write what we can call fanfictions of his real characters. Calling them characters does not seem appropriate, but to be honest, all of them are. I would not say all his characters found the perfect ending or not, but he does not seem to be the type who would leave his protagonists alone. Or so he claims.

Fudanshi Bartender no Tashinami is the ultimate fan service, made just for the fudanshis and fujoshis. Because who can relate more to a fudanshi than a fudanshi themself?

Rating- 3 out of 5

  1. Thanks for mentioning this- I’d agree 3/5 fun, simple and short.
Not to the level of the Man Who Defied the World of BL – but still amusing…..
