Weekly BL Updates

It’s raining BL romances and we couldn’t be happier. Join us as we take a dive into the latest announcements!

Korean GLs and Lesbian Romances

While Korean dramas dominate the Asian subcontinent, there has been a steep rise in the production of queer content. With the significant amount of queer dramas that the country is churning out, the Korean BL industry is slowly and steadily evolving. In contrast, the Girl’s Love isn’t as popular as its male counterpart and there are very few production houses vying for GL based scripts. One of the biggest announcements this week is pertaining to two GL romances from the Korean shores.

Heavy Snow

Korean actress Han So Hee was recently in the news because of her upcoming GL romance “Heavy Snow”. Quite famous for her intriguing characterization in popular shows like “Nevertheless”, “My Name” and “Soundtrack #1”, Han So Hee is well known for her diverse repertoire. The movie will be shown at 24th Jeonju International Film Festival and is probably set to premiere this year.

“Heavy Snow” is a heartwarming story about the friendship and blossoming love between two teenage girls as they navigate the challenges of growing up. Through their journeys from Gangneung to Seoul, the girls share a range of emotions and experiences that fully capture their enduring bond. Despite the physical distance and limited time they have together, their feelings for each other persist.

No Heaven, But Love

Another sapphic romance that is making waves is “We Can’t Go to Heaven, but We Can Love/ No Heaven, But Love”. Starring “Squid Games” actress Lee Yoo Mi opposite “Anna” star, Park Soo Yeon, No Heaven, But Love tells the story of the love of girls and the friendship of friends that was hotter than any other summer in the age of apocalypse in 1999, when nothing was easy. The film will be screened at the 24th Jeonju International Film Festival as well.

Mother Mary

“The Princess Diaries” star Anne Hathaway will be paired opposite “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actress Michaela Coel in this ambitious collaboration between A24 and director David Lowery (The Green Knight and A Ghost Story). Mother Mary will be filmed in Germany and will focus on the romantic relationship between an iconic pop star (Hathaway) and a well-known fashion designer (Cole). Cole was recently in news for playing the lesbian character, Aneka (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), who is in love with Ayo (Florence Kasumba). The songs for this movie will be composed by the Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff with pop icon Charli XCX, while Daniel Hart will produce the original score.

Crush On You

TikTok/ YouTube Shorts’ mini-series are fast gaining traction amongst Thai BL pairings. And joining this bandwagon is the “Middleman’s Love” couple, Tutor Koraphat and Yim Pharinyakorn. Popularly known as TutorYim, they will be starring in “Crush On You”. Produced by thaiminiseries, the concept is quite similar to their previous venture, “Our Winter”. The story is based on the endearing journey of two men who meet in a shop and inevitably get attracted to each other. TutorYim are already quite famous because of their natural chemistry in “Cutie Pie The Series” and avid fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere of their solo project “Middleman’s Love”, where they will be playing the main lead couple. Meanwhile, you can either watch “Our Winter” or await the release of “Crush on You”.

“Crush On You” premieres on Thaiminiseries’ TikTok channel, every Friday and Sunday at 6 PM GMT+7 (Thailand Standard Time), starting 31st March, 2023. Reruns will be available on Thaiminiseries’ YouTube Channel on every Saturday and Monday.

The month of March ended with a slew of announcements; the most anticipated one being- the teaser release of the upcoming historical BL “I Feel You Linger in the Air”. Synopsis-

The contents are intriguing. However, Jom doesn’t have time to concern himself with them; he must take a trip back to Bangkok to see his love. For years, Jom has been counting the days till his boyfriend would return from his far away studies, only to find him engaged to someone else. Heartbroken, Jom comes to a place of acceptance as he runs his car into the river. In the cold darkness, Jom catches the sweet scent of fresh frangipani flowers coming from the stream and in the distance, he can make out a deep, gentle voice pronouncing clearly, “Pho Jom.” Jom will find himself waking up in 1920s Chiang Mai.
