If you are an ardent fan of author Jamie’s novels, then her upcoming book adaptation, Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyoyung will be high on your watchlist. Apart from the gourmet affair that involves the lead couple, the show has ensemble casting, which includes both BL & GL couples. With the recent Thai GL Gap The Series making waves across the globe, Girls’ Love content is slowly gaining significance. Joining the veritable cast of HBAYG are Thunrawee Tiwacharoenpat (Pearmai) and Ananyaphon Hanvongjirawat (Anna), who will be playing the side couple- Bow & Rain. Taking sometime out of their busy schedule, Pearmai & Anna sat down for an intriguing conversation to talk about the show, their characters and chemistry with each other!

1. People loved your cute camaraderie with Fluk Chatchawan in “My Secret Love The Series”. How was the experience of working with Earth Teerapat and Fluk?

They both treated me with great kindness. Even if it’s not related to the series, we may still discuss it, if I have any issues. Because we play siblings in the series as well, our relationship is considerably deeper, and Fluk is the one who constantly makes fun of me on the set. Earth is a very adorable. Although he is a quiet person, he is fun and energetic when we speak. Despite having finished filming our first series, we continue to communicate on Instagram.

2) You will be playing a GL character in the upcoming adaptation “Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyogung”? Are you excited about this prospect?

I must admit that I’m quite excited. Because I never imagined having the opportunity to play that particular role. I have tons of homework to do.

Questions for Ananyaphon Hanvongjirawat (Anna)

1) You seem to have an active career in the modeling field. What made you switch gears to acting? Were you apprehensive about accepting a GL role for your debut?

I only generally accept model works, primarily in advertising. But this time, the modeling organizer suggested that there will be a series to play, and I went along with the idea. Considering that I had never tried acting before, I believe it was an excellent opportunity to pursue a career in the entertainment world. If you’re asking me if I’m worried, I’m definitely worried. And the more of a GL part it is, the more difficult it is for someone just starting out in acting like myself. But I’ll make an effort, I promise.

2) You have been paired opposite Pearmai in “Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyogung”. Have you read the novel by any chance? How are you preparing yourself to play this role?

I haven’t finished the entire book yet. However, Pearmai and I meet to get ready for our respective parts. Since we just met, working together will be simple, because we frequently speak to one another to become more intimate.

1) Tell us more about yourself and your background? Your likes and dislikes?

Pearmai: Being an only child sometimes made me lonely, but I’m actually not at all lonely. I really enjoy it, hehe. When people first meet me, they often describe me as being arrogant, something they have been doing since high school. Because whether I’m alone or meeting new people, I like to keep my face still. It would be awkward smiling at someone I don’t know. My friends tell me that I am very silly, maybe a little crazy, despite the fact that my image appears to be the opposite. I don’t often think negatively; that’s just how I am. I don’t feel stressed about anything in life, even if I put pressure on myself. I like a lot of things, including cute and adorable things, hehe. I love flowers so much that if no one bought them for me, I would buy them on my own. I dislike waiting, though. I find that I dislike waiting without a purpose more and more than time goes on.

Anna: I’m actually a girl who doesn’t say a lot. Rarely do I first speak with someone who is not close to me. But if someone wants to chat with me, I’m available. I enjoy visiting restaurants in search of delectable meals according to reviews on social. I’m someone who enjoys eating a lot. And I enjoy cooking and making snacks when I’m at home or have free time. What I dislike is that I don’t enjoy eating papaya.

2) What is your opinion or views about BL or GL content?

ความคิดเห็นหรือมุมมองของคุณเกี่ยวกับเนื้อหา BL หรือ GL คืออะไร

Pearmai: These particular contents, in my opinion, aim to convey the unconditional love between two people, attempting to normalize gender issues by serving as a channel for the public to learn about and become more aware of them. Considering that some people’s status in society may change as a result. I have the utmost respect for them.

Pearmai: แพรไหมคิดว่าเนื้อหาพวกนี้เค้าพยายามนำเสนอความรักแบบไม่จำกัดเพศของคนสองคนค่ะ พยายามจะเป็นสื่อกลางให้สาธารณะชนได้รับรู้และตระหนักถึงปัญหาเรื่องเพศมากขึ้น พยายามจะ normalize มันค่ะ แพรไหมสนับสนุนสื่อหรือเนื้อหาพวกนี้ที่ทำออกมามากๆค่ะ เพราะเค้าสามารถทำให้บางคนมีจุดยืนใหม่ในสังคมได้เลย นับถือมากๆค่ะ

Anna: I believe the content portrays love between people of the same gender, whether it be a man and a man or a woman and a woman. A series has been created to express a perspective on love to help the audience comprehend love better.

Anna : รู้สึกว่าเป็นเนื้อหาที่สื่อถึงเพศเดียวกันรักกันไม่ว่าจะเป็นชายรักชายหรือหญิงรักหญิง ทำให้รู้สึกว่ามีการเปิดกว้างของเพศสภาพ ได้มีการถ่ายทอดมุมมองด้านความรักออกมาในรูปแบบของซีรี่ส์ ให้คนดูได้มีความเข้าใจได้มากขึ้น

3) We would love to learn more about your character roles? How do you relate to them? Do you share any similarities with them?

Pearmai: In fact, on the outside, Bow and I resemble each other a lot. But because I genuinely have a dashing personality, we need to study behaviors in greater detail this time. In some perspectives, it might clash with my image. I might have to change my attitude and demeanor as Bow is a sweet girl.

Anna: Although Rain has a positive attitude, she is a girl of few words who is honest and takes her life seriously, which, altogether, is very similar to me. I am a person who says little and has a personality that is extremely similar to the character.

Anna : เรนเป็นตัวละครที่มีนิสัยร่าเริง เป็นคนพูดน้อย พูดตรง และจริงจังกับชีวิต ซึ่งโดยรวมแล้วค่อนข้างมีความใกล้เคียงกับตัวอันน่าเลยค่ะ เนื่องจากโดยส่วนตัวแล้วเป็นคนพูดน้อย และนิสัยโดยรวมก็มีความคล้ายตามคาแรคเตอร์ตัวละครเลยค่ะ

4) In your own little way, how can you be a representation of these characters, and how will you portray the idea that “Love is love and is beyond gender”?

ช่วยบอกหน่อยว่าคุณจะเป็นตัวแทนของตัวละครเหล่านี้ได้อย่างไร และคุณจะถ่ายทอดแนวคิดที่ว่า “ความรักคือความรักและอยู่เหนือเพศ” ได้อย่างไร ในแบบของคุณเอง

Pearmai: I want to represent the GL genre because I playing them in order to get the word out about this. According to this theory, I believe it is natural. Do not assume that people who love the same sex are odd or must be something different from us, since they express themselves in similar ways to other people and behave in similar ways too. For all genders, the method for communication is the same. They ought to receive the same treatment regardless of their gender.

Anna: I would portray the story by getting the audience to feel a connection to the characters or roles that we perform. Try to comprehend the characters as much as I can, then try to reflect that understanding as much as I can through my facial expressions and emotions.

5) As a BL series, your show tackles themes that concern the LGBTQAI community. What are your personal views about these types of relationships?

Pearmai: We are a BL series, and we speak for the diversity of gender in society. The LGBTQAI community will become more confident and assertive as a result of the media’s release, to a greater or lesser extent. I can still see the beginning of media development even though the series may not depict all gender roles. As we can see, BL was the only thing there at first, and later, GL appeared. In the near future, I’m sure there will be more media that can portray gender diversity to uplift LGBTQAI people’s spirits.

Pearmai: ในฐานะซีรีส์วาย พวกเค้าเป็นหนึ่งในกระบอกเสียงถึงความหลากหลายทางเพศในสังคม สื่อที่เผยแพร่ออกไปจะช่วยเพิ่มกำลังใจและความกล้าแสดงออกให้ชุมชน LGBTQAI ไม่มากก็น้อย ถึงแม้ว่าในซีรีส์อาจจะไม่ได้แสดงออกครบทุกบทบาททางเพศ แต่อย่างน้อยก็ยังเห็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่จะพัฒนาสื่อไปเรื่อยๆ อย่างที่เราเห็นว่าเริ่มแรกจะมีแค่ BL หลังๆ เริ่มมีสื่อ GL แพรไหมว่าอีกไม่ช้าจะต้องมีสื่อที่สามารถถ่ายทอดความหลากหลายทางเพศมากขึ้นเพื่อสร้างขวัญกำลังใจให้ชาว LGBTQAI อย่างแน่นอน

Anna: Because of how the world has changed and how anyone can now be of any gender, it is not improper. Unlike earlier, when women were restricted to love only men. Everybody has the right to express themselves in any way they see fit. And everyone should be proud of themselves and to be with their loved ones.

6) You both seem to have a very cute and adorable chemistry? How comfortable are you with each other?

Pearmai: I’m at ease when I’m around Anna. There is absolutely no awkwardness because we can interact with one another like regular friends. Probably due to our similar ages, we can discuss a lot of topics together.

Anna: In certain ways, I feel at ease. There hasn’t been a contraction since we initially met. We had a good talk upon first meeting one another. I feel like we’ve been friends for a long time, haha. As a result, I believe that there should be no issue with matching.

7) Once the shows air, you will be famous as a GL couple? How are you going to handle the subsequent attention and fame?

เมื่อซีรีส์ออกอากาศแล้ว คุณสองคนจะมีชื่อเสียงในฐานะคู่รัก GL คุณจะจัดการกับความสนใจและชื่อเสียงที่ตามมาอย่างไร

Pearmai: Even if my role is over, I will continue to support their love. Regarding the subject of the subsequent attention and fame that follows, I’ll consider how to manage it for the time being based on how much there will be.

Anna: I’ll carry on leading a regular life as usual. However, there needs to be a better attitude, one that is more considerate and serves as a good example for followers, fans, and any young audiences. They should be able to perceive the positive aspects and learn from them.

Anna : ก็คงใช้ชีวิตปกติเหมือนเดิมค่ะ แต่จะต้องมีการวางตัวที่ดีขึ้น รอบคอบมากขึ้น และเป็นแบบอย่างที่ดีให้กับผู้ชมและแฟนๆ เผื่อมีคนที่ดูเราเป็นเด็ก เขาจะได้เห็นในสิ่งที่ดีๆ และควรทำตามค่ะ

8) Will you both continue to work in more GL dramas? If yes, then what kind of scripts will interest you?

คุณทั้งคู่จะทำงานในวงการ GL ต่อไปหรือไม่ ถ้าใช่ คุณจะสนใจบทประเภทใด

Pearmai: I’m prepared to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way. I actually want to audition for a lot more roles. I want to act in a series as someone entirely different from myself.

Pearmai: ถ้ามีโอกาสดีๆเข้ามาอีก แพรไหมก็พร้อมจะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในนั้นค่ะ จริงๆแล้วแพรไหมอยากลองอีกหลายบทบาทเลย อยากเปลี่ยนคาแรกเตอร์เป็นคนอื่นแบบฉีกแนวสุดขั้วเลยค่ะ

Anna: If there were an opportunity, I would take it. It could be any character in the story; the plot is unimportant. It should be good if it’s a role I’ve never performed, so I can challenge myself to try to play a role I’ve never done.

Anna : ถ้ามีโอกาสเข้ามาให้อีกก็คงทำค่ะ เรื่องบทคือไม่เกี่ยงเลยค่ะเป็นบทไหนก็ได้ ยิ่งถ้าเป็นบทที่ไม่เคยเล่นก็น่าจะดีค่ะ จะได้ท้าทายตัวเองได้ลองเล่นในบทที่ไม่เคยเล่นดูค่ะ

8) As young Thai actresses, what is your message to the international BL community? What do you want people to know about you?

ในฐานะนักแสดงชาวไทย คุณอยากฝากอะไรถึงกลุ่ม BL ในต่างประเทศบ้าง คุณต้องการให้คนอื่นรู้อะไรเกี่ยวกับคุณบ้าง

Pearmai: Despite the fact that Thailand is not as large or established as other Asian nations, we will make every effort to generate high-quality media. The actors will do every effort to have these forms of media recognized on an international level. Compared to other actresses in the Thai entertainment industry, I don’t look particularly impressive or have a great acting talent, but I’m determined to keep improving. Last but not least, remember to watch Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyogung The series in which I’m making my acting debut as a GL actress.
