“Love Tractor” Series Review (Ep.3 to 8)

The little things in life often leave the deepest impressions and the strongest support. The little things often open our eyes to the more significant moments.

It’s the little things that make the Korean BL Love Tractor stand out.

Adapted from the webtoon of the same name by Hmm Yong Yong, Love Tractor tells the story of Sun Yeol (Do Won), a law student feeling lost in the city who finds himself in the countryside with the adorably passionate Suh Ye Chan (Yoon Do Jin).

The world is fast-paced, full of fatigue, disillusionment, expectation, and criticism. So, it’s charming to stumble on places where life moves slower, where people don’t take things for granted.

Love Tractor takes viewers from the fast-paced city to the countryside by allowing us to step from the exhausting day-to-day expectations Yeol fights to meet to a slow-paced lifestyle where he only has to think about himself. A place where he is allowed to heal. To reflect. To escape. To find himself.

To fall in love.

And in so doing, Love Tractor does a splendid job balancing sweetness with realization, the comedy with subtle seriousness by focusing on the interactions between the jaded Yeol and the innocent but steadfast Yechan. It keeps things simple but honest, from Yeol’s instinctive lashing out when Yechan gets too close to Yechan’s adorable yet heart-rending reactions to falling in love for the first time.

And that brings me to the true magic behind Love Tractor: Yechan.

The most beautiful thing about this series is how uncomplicated, honest, and straightforward Yechan’s love is. There are no strings attached. No complex twist to how he presents himself. It’s simply Yechan being Yechan, loving too hard while allowing Yeol to be who Yeol wants to be. Love isn’t a demand; it’s a desire. A want. A hope. A dream. And that’s how Yechan treats it.

Yechan’s love is a love that offers Yeol the kind of support he needs while also offering Yechan the giddy happiness he’s found despite the confusion and pain Yechan also deals with as he fights for that love.

And that’s beautiful. Love is love. It isn’t love that’s complicated. It’s people that are complicated.

In Love Tractor, Yeol and Yechan find mutual love in the phrase, “It’s cool to do what you like.” To find happiness in simply loving each other while continuing to do what each loves, no matter how people look at them.

The coming-of-age first love meets the need-to-heal while doing-what-you-love vibe melts off the screen in Love Tractor, leaving viewers feeling warm, accepted, and needed.

And that’s powerful in itself.
