Have you ever been unsure about which series to watch and scroll through your apps looking for one? I do this all the time and coincidentally I found these three shorts on Gagaoolala. They are all love stories, with a definitive plot. I wish there was more to it, but I am happy with the short format as well. Let me share my thoughts with you.
The Four Vampires (South Korea)
Starring Kim Geon Won as Jae Hyeon, Lee Kwan Hun as Jung Soo, Nam Seung Min as Yoon Il and Lee Da Hye as Seon Ah
Have you ever watched a drama and thought “What did I just watch?” I felt the same the first time I watched “The 4 Vampires”. I watched it again and thought it was cute.
“The Four Vampires” has to be one of the shortest dramas I have ever watched coming in at a mere 14 minutes and 53 seconds. It is about 4 vampires who want to die and don’t want to be vampires anymore.
Easy right? Apparently, it’s not so easy to die when you are a vampire. All the typical ways we see vampires killed in movies are unsuccessful; garlic, crucifix, a stake through the heart and even sunlight and the one odd out was sex between vampires.
It was a subtle way of making fun of the said vampires. In essence, everything they tried failed and in the end; well I cannot tell you how it ends now, can I?
The filming style and the background score were good enough, as this was such a short series; but it fit the mood of those 4 vampires. This is something you can watch when you just want to smile.
Something Crunchy Crunchy (South Korea)
Starring Cha Seo Won as Da Yi Jae/Choco Ball, Yoon Bak as Sang Yeob/Choco Diget, Choi Jae Min as Melon Ball
This short 23 minutes long drama is part series, part musical and has a very interesting concept. This is another one where I gasped in surprise after Melon ball and Choco Ball were packaged together. They are foods that no one wants and end up in the “dark place” where all the unwanted food goes. There then meet Choco Diget, who has been in the “dark place” the longest. Both Choco Ball and Choco Diget develop feelings for Melon Ball and seek his affections. Who will Melon Ball choose?
I know the storyline sounds strange, but this is a short drama that focuses on loneliness and then finding someone to love. The OST is very sweet; they are beautiful love songs. In a very peculiar way, this is a beautiful love story.
These are some of my favorite shorts and they might be a little unusual, yet I have watched them several times.
Rating- 3.5 out of 5 (for both)
