“One In A Hundred” Series Review (Ep.1 to 12)

Starring Liu Zi Rui as Baili Qian Chuan and Lu Dong Xu as Nan Bo Wan

Sometimes we come across a different style BL and “One In A Hundred” is just that. It has been shot more in a sitcom style instead of regular BL adage, with laugh tracks which makes it quite fun to watch. Nan Bo Wan is an executive living an unglamorous life in Beijing. As such, he decides to rent a room in his apartment for some extra spending money. On the other hand, Baili Qian Chuan is an upcoming idol wanting to experience more fame. Ironically, he becomes Bo Wan’s roommate and chaos ensues from there. It all starts with Qian Chuan walking into Bo Wan’s room wearing only a towel, while Nan is doing a live stream. Of course, Qian Chuan’s fans get the wrong idea about these two and start shipping them, thinking they are a couple (when in reality, they aren’t).

As our main leads try to navigate out of this difficult situation, they both meet Qian Chuan’s boss. They get a surprise when the boss asks them to create online content as a real couple. They would get a considerable amount of money for every video uploaded on a daily basis. There are up and down moments in this series and it truly keeps you guessing if things will work out between them. Bo Wan and Qian Chuan get shirts with the CP initials embalmed, which essentially stands for “Couple”. Although Bo Wan does not know what it means but Qian Chuan does. Trying to keep it a secret has some very commercial outcomes.

Later, Qian Chuan tries to clear the misunderstandings and chaos ensues. The carnage was extremely hilarious to watch.

How do things work out for out for our main leads? Is it real or just for show? Watch and seek the answers yourself!

Although this series is adorably cute and funny, the laugh track ruins the mood. The sound effects are overly exaggerated and the OST is too satirical to match my taste. Each episode is about 11 minutes long and even though it is overtly cringy, I could not wait to finish the series. This is one of those series that I wouldn’t watch normally. The story is endearing but lacking lacks any substance. The subtitles were offputting at times. Overall, I did enjoy this one, but he doesn’t have much rewatch value.
