“Be Mine, Superstar” First Impressions (Ep.1 to 3)

JaFirst is one of my favorite BL Ships. I enjoyed their characters of Leo and Fiat in TharnType: 7 Years in Love – and I loved them even more in their spin-off series Don’t Say No and though they were part of an ensemble cast, Remember Me was a masterpiece.

Based on the novel The Superstar and the Puppy on Set by Ofious, Ja stars as Punn, a third-year university student who gets the job of his dreams when he becomes an internet on the set of the drama Prince of Love. A historic drama set in the 1940s, First portrays the actor, Ashi, who is playing the series lead, a Prince. Beloved by the nation, Ashi is the keeper of Punn’s heart and fantasies – even if he doesn’t know it.

After the drama and tears (so many tears) of Remember Me I was very much excited to learn that this series, is a comedy. And comedic it is! There is a scene, after learning he got the job that Punn is in the shower. Now, if seeing Ja nearly naked wasn’t enough to make your heart flutter, watching him be a complete and utter goofball is. I love a man with a sense of humor – who isn’t afraid to make fun of himself.

The series also stars Bosston Suphadach, who previously co-starred alongside Ja in the 2019 BL juggernaut Until We Meet Again. Suphadach plays Mingmueang, an actor who not only belongs to the same agency as Ashi but stars in Prince of Love alongside him. After meeting a mysterious man (Jo Kavinpat) in a bar, the two have a hot and torrid night of passion. But, in the morning, the man has no interest in ever seeing Mingmueang again. He doesn’t even give him his name.

As silly as it is sexy, Be My Superstar doesn’t seem to take itself to seriously. It leans into the overacting Thai Lakorns are known for, and right away lets you know it’s in on the joke. These behind-the-scenes style dramas are like a little window into the wild and wacky world production – and this series is so damn fun! The dueling agents, the over-inflated egos, the innocent fan falling in love with the leading man – it’s just adorable – much like the series leads.

Seriously, there have been so many great moments in this series – Punn’s “dream” in episode three… I haven’t laughed that hard in a minute. Again, Ja has great comedic timing – and First, as the stern and series television star is just brilliant. Such a dream boat!

The 12 episode series, directed by David Bigander this twelve episode series streams Monday on both iQiYi and Viki with VIKI being the official (and only) way to watch in the US.

If I have one request / hope for the series, it’s that Ja’s wig from both Until We Meet Again and Remember Me makes an appearance.

It would be the cherry onto of what is already a perfect Monday snack.

More Be My Superstar soon so…

Stay Tuned!
