Producing a BL show with a decent storyline isn’t an easy job; it is even more difficult when you are based in a conservative society like Hong Kong. From procuring funds to the running the show, Actor/Producer Bosco TSE’s stuck gold after almost three years of hardship. We are talking about the recently on-air miniseries “Stay Still”. The dulcet usage of low lights coupled with humble settings compliments the overall storytelling and it’s a great way to deliver a sombre romance. Joining him on this arduous yet fulfilling journey is co-star Chun Hin TO. We sat down for a casual conversation with this handsome couple about this ambitious project and future endeavors.

Questions for Chun Hin TO

1) How is the experience of starring as the main lead, Kelvin in “Stay Still The Series”. Overwhelmed, excited or nervous?

To: I was thrilled when I found out that I got this role because I had previously been involved in dramas with BL themes while studying drama in Taiwan. However, none of them depicted the inner emotions of a character as detailed as “Stay Still”. As for being nervous, it’s my first time filming intimate scenes, so I was quite worried about performing well.

To： 當然我得知獲得這個角色的時候感到十分興奮， 因為在台灣讀戲劇的時候也有接觸過BL題材的戲劇， 但是並沒有像《樓下來的人》這套劇把一個角色的內心表現得這麼詳細。 緊張方面的話， 畢竟是第一次拍攝有親密鏡頭， 所以都十分緊張怕自己做得不好

2) You are playing a married character who gets back with his old school friend after a brief interlude. What kind of mindset did you adopt while portraying this character?

To: In fact, when I initially designed the mindset of Kelvin as an adult, I envisioned him as someone who has experienced a lot, someone who appears unaffected by everything on the surface but carries a heavy burden behind the scenes, such as his son and the business he built from scratch.

To： 其實當初我在設計這個角色長大後的心態的時候， 我就把 Kelvin 設計成為一個， 已經是經歷很多的大人， 對所有事情表面上都沒有所謂， 但是背後卻背負很多事情， 例如自己的兒子， 一手創建的事業。

Questions for Bosco TSE

1) You are starring as the main lead, Archie in the BL, “Stay Still The Series ”. How did you prepare yourself to play this role?

Bosco: Since I have minimal on-screen experience compared to other actors, after deciding to play Archie, I have been studying the script every day. Whenever I have free time, I try to come up with small gestures for Archie and imagine a richer background for his character, hoping to make Archie a more well-rounded role. I have also looked too many LGBTQ+ dramas for inspiration, aiming to give my best performance in front of the camera and not wanting to hold back the rest of the cast because of me.

Bosco：因為我的幕前經驗應該是演員當中最少的，所以在我決定出演Archie後，我每天都在研究著劇本，一有空時便會在想為Archie設計一些小動作，為Archie想像更豐富的人物背景，希望能讓Archie成為一個更立體的角色。而且也參考了很多LGBTQ+類型的戲劇，希望能讓自己盡量在鏡頭面前發揮得最好，不希望因為我而拖了大家的後腿。

2) You are also co-producing this show. As one of the producers, what kind of problems did you face while working on this show? How long did it take for this show to materialize?

Bosco: The biggest challenge of the entire project lies in resources, as the BL market in Hong Kong is still relatively immature. It was difficult to acquire the necessary resources for shooting under the premise of it being a BL production. There was a point where the project almost had to be abandoned, which was incredibly trying. From the planning stage to now, the production of this series has taken over two to almost three years. I am truly grateful that I persevered, especially when I see that “Stay Still” has been well-received by everyone.

Bosco：整個計劃最大的難處是在資源方面，因為香港的BL市場仍不太成熟，所以很難以BL拍攝的名義去取得資源去進行拍攝，最艱難時整個計劃曾經差點需要放棄的階段。這部劇集從籌備階段到現在，我們經歷了二年多快三年的時間，在我看見“Stay Still”能被大家喜歡，我真的很慶幸自己有堅持製作這個計劃。

Couple Interview Questions

1) Tell us more about yourself and your background? Your likes and dislikes?

To: I am a Libra born in 1997. I just finished studying drama in Taiwan and returned to Hong Kong. I love hotpot, especially tomato and spicy flavors. I dislike darkness and I am also afraid of ghosts and supernatural things. But I still watch them.

Bosco: I am a Virgo and one of the founders of Jupiter Entertainment. However, I don’t have much experience in performing on stage, so I hope everyone can be understanding. I have many things that I like; I enjoy hotpot, Disneyland, and drinking. My favorite food is fish, maw, and even my Chihuahua is named Fish Maw. If I were to mention something I don’t like, it would probably be horror movies and very dark places.

To: 我是一個1997年出生的天秤座男生， 剛在台灣讀完戲劇專業回港

最喜歡火鍋， 還要是蕃茄和麻辣雙口味。

最討厭黑， 也很怕鬼怪東西。 但是卻會一直看。

Bosco：我是處女座的男生，也是木星娛樂的其中一位創始人，但我對於在幕前演出沒有太多經驗，希望大家能多多包容。我喜歡的東西有很多，同To一樣喜歡火鍋，還有迪士尼，還有喝酒。最喜歡吃的東西是花膠，喜歡到我家的芝娃娃名字也是叫花膠。如果說不喜歡的話，大概是恐怖片和很黑的地方。

2) What is your opinion or views about BL or GL content?

To: Actually, I enjoy watching both BL and GL content. There is no fundamental difference between them and heterosexual content. Of course, I understand that there will always be people with different opinions in society, but I hope that more people can accept BL and GL content.

Bosco: The content of BL and GL always gives me a sense of beauty. The sincere love portrayed there always touches me and makes me fantasize about experiencing such love myself. Moreover, BL and GL content often promote messages of equality. I believe it is meaningful for people to absorb positive messages through entertainment.

To： 其實無論BL或GL 我都會看，和異性戀並沒有本質上的不同。

當然我明白在這個社會上一定會有意見不同的人， 但是我希望有更加多人能夠接受BL和GL內容

Bosco：BL和GL的內容都讓我覺得很唯美，那份真摯的愛情總是會讓我很感動，也會讓我幻想自己可以經歷一次那樣的愛情。而且BL和GL的內容都總是能宣揚一些平等的訊息，我認為能讓人在娛樂中能吸收到一些正面的訊息是非常有意義的事情。

3) We would love to learn more about your character roles? How do you relate to them? Do you share any similarities with them?

To: My role is a character with more stories to tell as he grows up, which adds more background and development to Kelvin, immersing him in fictional scenarios and resonating with the character.

Kelvin is someone who really likes children, and in the series, he is especially fond of his son. In real life, I also enjoy being around kids and find them adorable.

Bosco: Archie is a character whose personality undergoes a significant change from his high school days to the present. He used to be introverted during his high school days but has now become very proactive. We can see this transformation in Archie, who used to love drinking silver chrysanthemum tea but now enjoys Long Island Iced tea.

The traits I share with Archie are our mutual love for drinking alcohol and being more assertive in handling relationships.

To：我的角色是一個在長大後比較多故事的角色， 直接讓kelvin這個角色更加更加多背景和設定， 陷入劇情幻境與角色產生共鳴

Kelvin 是一個很喜歡小孩子的人， 在劇中最捨不得就是孩子。 我在現實中也很喜歡小朋友， 覺得他們很可愛。

Bosco：Archie是一個中學時期和現在的性格改變很大的一個角色，他的中學時期比較內向，現在就變得非常進取。這一點我們可以從Archie由愛喝銀菊露變成一個喝長島冰茶的人就可以知道。

我自己與Archie最相似的地方應該是都很喜歡喝酒，還有就是在處理愛情上也會比較主動。

4) In your own little way, how can you be a representation of these characters, and how will you portray the idea that “Love is love and is beyond gender”?

To: I believe that gender is just a framework and should not hinder love. As long as there is love in one’s heart, gender is not a barrier.

Bosco: I believe that love has no gender distinction. We all have the right to choose to be with the person we love. Moreover, no one has the right to control whom others should love.

To： 我認為性別只是一個框架， 並不能讓性別去阻擋愛。 只要心中有愛，性別不是一個障礙。

Bosco：我認為愛本來就沒有性別之分，我們都有權利去選擇自己喜歡的人在一起。而且沒有人能夠控制其他人應該要喜歡誰。

5) You both seem to have a very sensual chemistry? The characters you portray require a huge deal of mutual understanding. How comfortable are you with each other?

To: We often meet up for meals and movies in our spare time. Bosco sometimes invites me to have a drink, but I can’t drink alcohol, so I always have juice when I drink with him.

Bosco: Because To has more experience in performance, he always gives me a lot of advice during filming, which makes me feel at ease. In our daily lives, To is always accommodating to me, taking me to eat the things I want. After I have a drink, To also takes good care of me. Moreover, we have similar preferences, so I always feel like we have great chemistry with each other.

To： 平日在空餘時間也會約出來吃飯看電影， bosco也會邀請我去小酌。 但是我都不能喝酒所以我跟他喝酒時， 我都是喝果汁。

Bosco：因為To是在演出上比較多經驗，在拍攝期間總能給我很多建議，讓我很放心。而平日裡，To也很遷就我，總是帶我去吃我想吃的東西，在我喝酒後，To也是會很照顧我。而且我們的喜好很相似，所以都總覺得和To很有默契。

6) Will you both continue to work in more BL dramas? If yes, then what kind of scripts will interest you?

To: Of course. I personally prefer light comedic scripts and enjoy creating a relaxed as well as fun atmosphere. It’s a great feeling when everything comes together smoothly and sweetly.

Bosco: Jupiter Entertainment is also preparing for a new drama series, so there will definitely be more BL dramas for us to participate in. If given the opportunity, I would love to try a historical drama script that is heart-wrenching and makes everyone cry their hearts out.

To： 當然會的， 本人比較喜歡輕鬆喜劇的劇本， 我很喜歡那一種輕鬆有趣的氛圍。合拍且甜蜜的感覺

Bosco：木星娛樂也正在籌備下一部新劇集，所以一定會有更多的BL戲劇會參與。有機會的話，我很想嘗試一下古裝的劇本，然後很虐心，讓大家哭得死去活來的故事。

7) As young BL actors, what is your message to the international BL community? What do you want people to know about you?

To: I hope that society can be more accepting of BL culture, not only increasing the audience but also having more and more viewers willing to engage in BL culture. I also hope that more people can be honest and straightforward about the things they like. I also hope that everyone can come and witness the interaction between me and Bosco in “The Person Below”.

Bosco: Firstly, I want to express my gratitude to every BL fan because it is your support that allows BL to have a tremendous impact, making it easier for the message of equality to be accepted. I also hope that more people can understand that love has no limits and is a very pure thing. I hope that everyone can give us and Jupiter Entertainment more support, so that we can produce more high-quality BL content and let everyone know that we are artists and producers who are happy to speak up for everyone.
