Japanese BL: “A Man Who Defies The World of BL” Sequel Announced

Adapted from the manga series “Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai VS Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko” (絶対BLになる世界VS絶対BLになりたくない男) by Konkichi (紺吉), “A Man Who Defies The World of BL” is fast becoming a popular franchise. In an industry where we have trending precedents like “What Did You Eat Yesterday?” and “My Beautiful Man”, the show has definitely made a mark.

Starring Inukai Atsuhiro (Kei×Yaku: Abunai Aibou, Bokura no Shokutaku) in the lead role, the story focuses on Mob, who suddenly realizes that he is living in a BL world. He likes girls, so he must turn down any hot guys who approach him. But since it is their world, there is no escaping the public displays of affection around every corner. While the prequel (2021) was based on Mob’s initiation into the BL world (albeit unwillingly); the sequel follows Mob’s journey as he finally confesses to his classmate Kikuchi. Season Two was rightly subtitled “The story about the man who defies the world of BL VS A world that turns every man gay.”

Volume 4 of the manga will soon be adapted into a drama, continuing from the previous works. Produced by NTT Docomo Studio & Live, the upcoming season has been entitled as, “A world that will definitely become BL VS a man who definitely doesn’t want to become BL”. This season, Mob desperately spends his days resisting the handsome men approaching him and dodging situations that are likely to develop into love.

Yutaro (Naked Dining) and Shiono Akihisa will be reprising their roles as Ayato (Mob’s younger brother) and Toujou (Ayato’s boyfriend). Ito Asahi will be joining the cast as Kikuchi, Mob’s classmate who has a longtime crush on him. Reportedly, 20 handsome men have been carefully selected and cast in variant roles, alongside the main protagonist. The show will be directed by Ryuichi Honda and the screenplay will be written by Izumi Kawasaki (instead of Miki Koichiro who directed S1, S2 and Kawasaki Izumi, the screenwriter for both seasons).
