Top 5: BL Original Soundtracks of 2023

When it comes to music, the BL industry has some incredibly OST albums.

Redo (Be My Favorite: The Series)

I very much enjoyed this series and the theme, by Kris is so catchy and fun!

Loudest Love (Cherry Magic Thailand)

TayNew are the first BL ship I ever sailed. “Dark Blue Kiss” remains as one of my favorite series, so I was thrilled when I heard they would be in the Thai adaptation of the popular Japanese manga / series “Cherry Magic: 30 Years of Virginity Will Make You a Wizard?!?”. While it’s currently unavailable for international fans, the theme song is, and it’s perfect.

Is This the Real Love (La Pluie: The Series)

The theme song, performed here by side couple: Copter Nanthaphong (Lomfon), Suea Kritsanaphong (Saengthian), is one of the best parts of a series that started strong and interesting, but towards the end fell too deep into the well of tropes to pull itself out.

The Moon Represents My Heart (Moonlight Chicken)

This series was one of my most favorite of 2023. So much incredibly talent in a truly beautiful story. Also, this song, is just beautiful.

Rainbow (Love Tractor: The Series)

Performed by 콜딘 (Coldin), who also recorded the theme to 2022 mega-hit “Semantic Error”, Rainboww is a softer, more country-style song – which fit this wholesome BL.

Honorable Mension: 민용 (Mignon)

Composed by 전용현 (Jeon Yonghyeon) this synth poppy score is just as addicting as the animated Rama itself. Honestly, one of the best. Full stop.

  1. My favorite was the OST of AN UNINTENTIONAL LOVE STORY, which contained six (original?) songs. Unbelievably in this world of streaming and seemingly disposable music, the studio actually sold a physical CD. It came with great
K-POPish packaging including a gorgeous, huge poster which I was able to hang & frame. It’s now the focal point of my guest bedroom!

Honorable mentions go to Khaotung for two memorable songs: “Your World, My World,” a duet with First that has a music video featuring the two at their cutest, plus the song played a pivotal role in the OUR SKYY 2 episodes of ECLIPSE and “Let’s Try” from JUST FRIENDS, a rock song that perfectly reflects the edginess of the series.
