“Dead Friend Forever” (DFF) is a slasher/horror series, about 8 friends who take a trip to a vacation house as a farewell to their friend who is going to study abroad. While on the trip, in the middle of nowhere, it becomes clear that there is a sinister presence that is attacking the boys, and past secrets seem to be haunting them. The boys now have to play a game of cat and mouse with the killer, while some of them are hiding their secrets, about what really happened to their friend, and a “Lord of the Flies”-esque survival game becomes afoot, as the original crew Top (Jet Bundit), Por (Us Nititorn), Tee (JJay Patiphan), Fluke (Bump Pawat), Jin (Copper Phuriwat) and Tan (Mio Athens) tries to hide their acts, from their partners Phi (Ta Nannakun), White (Fuaiz Thanawat) while the audience try to figure out what really happened and what is causing the killings.
Although the series starts slow in order to build the suspense, the little to no exposition can be frustrating; however, that adds to the overall thrill of the show. It becomes clear that something tragic happened at the vacation house years earlier, when one of their friends Non (Barcode Tinnasit) went missing, seemingly due to negligence or malicious intent from the boys. Moreover, the woods in which the boys are vacationing are known to be the “playground” of some ritualists, who partake in human and animal sacrifice rituals, making for an ominous setting, before the boys even arrive at the vacation house.

While celebrating and having a farewell party for Jin (Copper Phuriwat Chotiratanasak), things take a turn when Por (Us Nititorn Akkarachotsopon) is found in the woods having been shot and maimed. It soon becomes apparent that there is a 9th person on the premises who is after the boys, and due to their history on the property, some of the boys believe that they are under a curse, which is causing the attacks, but there is clearly a sentient being chasing them and trying to murder them. The attacker sometimes uses excessive violence and force, like when it beheads Por’s uncle, however, it sometimes merely teases attacks on the boys, giving the series a very camp feel.

The first three episodes do not quite provide a holistic view into the direction of the show, whether there are supernatural elements at play, or if it is a Scooby-doo-esque scheme by the perpetrator(s), however, it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats as we look forward to how the show develops, who is in cohorts with the killer, who will die and who will be the final boy. The show is promising, and as more exposition unfolds, and as it finds its ground, it promises to be a fun, camp, thrilling horror that is filling a void that is much-needed in the BL sphere. This is a must watch for horror lovers and BL lovers alike.
