In a star-studded gala last year, Thai media giant GMMTV announced their major projects for 2024. While quite a few old pairings were reintroduced in new projects, the lineup also inducted some pairings. The excitement is obviously feverish when it comes to GMMTV’s BL lineups exclusivity. “We Are Series”, “Wandee Goodday”, “My Love Mix-Up” and “Only Boo Series” have started filming, and we are here with the latest updates!
Wandee Goodday
Probably one of the most anticipated releases in 2024, “Wandee Goodday” introduces the fresh pairing of Inn Sarin and Great Sapol. While Sarin became extremely popular after starring in the fantasy drama “The Miracle of Teddy Bear”, Great Sapol was applauded for his serious depiction of Inspector M in the suspense thriller “Manner of Death”. Adapted from the novel “Wandee Witthaya” (วันดีวิทยา) by Nottakorn (นทกร); the show features Sarin as the handsome surgeon, Wandee, who gets entangled with a hot-tempered boxer, Yeo-yak. From a “Friends with Benefits”, their relationship slowly morphs into something more. Thor Thinnaphan and Fluke Nattanon will be playing the supporting couple, Oye & Cherry. Directed by Golf Tanwarin (The Eclipse, 609 Bedtime Story), the show also stars Ployphach Phatchatorn, Pod Suphakorn and Drake Sattabut as secondary characters. The cast recently had a script reading session followed up a blessing ceremony, after which they have started shooting. Sarin & Great exude a warm camaraderie in the pictures, here’s hoping it translates to some good chemistry onscreen!
We Are Series
Starring not one but three GMMTV pairings, “We Are Series” is certainly another anticipated release of 2024. Helmed by veteran director, New Siwaj; “We Are Series”, the show has an ensemble casting which includes Pond Naravit (Phum), Phuwin Tangsakyuen (Pheem), Phuwin Tangsakyuen (Q), Satang Kittiphop (Toey), Aou Thanaboon, Boom Tharatorn, Marc Pahun and Pawin Kulkaranyawich. While this is Pond-Phuwin’s third project after “Fish Upon the Sky” and “Never Let Me Go”, Phuwin & Satang will be starring as a couple for the second time after “My School President”. Aou and Boom will be playing a couple for the third time after starring together in “Vice Versa” and “Hidden Agenda”. Marc and Pawin have been previously paired in “My Gear and Your Gown” and “Dangerous Romance”. The show started filming in early November last year and the social media accounts are littered with cute pictures of each pairing.
My Love Mix-Up Thai
Adapted from the manga “My Love Mix-Up!” (消えた初恋) written by Hinekure Wataru (ひねくれ渡) and illustrated by Aruko (アルコ); “My Love Mix-Up!” is the Thai remake of the popular teenage romance “Kieta Hatsukoi” starring Michieda Shunsuke and Meguro Ren in the lead roles of Aoki and Ida. Fan favorites Fourth Nattawat and Gemini Norawit will be reprising the titular roles as Atom & Kongthap. This is their third project after “My School President” and “Midnight Chicken”. “Kieta Hatsukoi” also featured Fukumoto Riko as Aoki’s confidant, Hashimoto and Suzuki Jin portrayed her love interest, Aida. In the Thai version, rookie actors Pahn Pathitta and Chokun Puttipong will be reprising their roles. Aungpao Ochiris (Cooking Crush Series) is also joining the show in a supporting role. The cast recently had their first read through, following which the shooting has begun.
Only Boo Series
Adapted from the novel “Khae Thi Kaeng” (แค่ที่แกง) by peachhplease, the show features rookie actors, Keen Suwijak and Sea Dechchart in the lead roles of Moo & Kaeng. Supporting cast includes Book Kasidet, Aun Napat, Ashi Peerakan, Milk Pansa & Louis Thanawin. The story focuses on Moo who is obsessed with two things- the canteen boy, Kaeng and his passion for music. Kaeng initially resists Moo’s attempts to gain his attention, but soon loses the battle and falls for him. Things take an unexpected turn when Moo gets selected to be a part of a boy band. Unfortunately, their management doesn’t allow the boys to be in a relationship. Moo has to decide between the two great loves of his life. The cast and crew recently held a blessing ceremony followed by script reading session. The show has finally begun filming.
Worth mentioning is that Au Kornprom is directing, MY LOVE MIX-UP, after the overwhelming success of his directorial debut, helming MY SCHOOL PRESIDENT. (He’s in the bright blue t-shirt in one of the photos above.) Au has demonstrated a style that flawlessly melds funny & fluffy with some pathos & hard-hitting social commentary, a perfect combination for this remake. (Remember the creepy student teacher in the original?)
