“Tadaima, Okaeri” First Impressions (Ep.1 to 4)

“A slice of life romance with strong bonds of familial love and friendships”

In a world hugely dominated by male archetypes, there are very few stories that portray the fictional omegaverse universe. Whilst having a team conversation, most of the BL Xpress writers reported that they had no idea about this genre which has been hugely exploited in Chinese & Japanese BL novels. The ideology might seem archaic as Omegaverse drew their origins from the werewolf mythology (we are so talking about “Twilight”). While the western world limits their imagination to shapeshifters who are categorized as Alphas, Betas & Omegas based on their hierarchy; the ABO/Omegaverse categorizes humans via the addition of a secondary organ. Alphas being the most dominant, are the strongest and have the ability to impregnate (both males & females, since female alphas can’t conceive). Omegas are the lowest of the ranks and have the ability to conceive (both males & females, since both have uterus, although the society is clearly prejudiced against male omegas). This prejudice becomes the focal theme of “Tadaima, Okaeri” which is centered around the life of omega Masaki Fujiyoshi. We will get you more details as we talk about the varied characters & their correlation.

Main Leads and Their Chemistry

☆ Masaki Fujiyoshi (Atsushi Tamura) is a stay-at-home spouse and parent. He has fought long and hard with feelings of being a burden to his loving husband, Hiromu (Toshiyuki Morikawa), due to his status as an omega—a secondary gender, allowing one to give birth regardless of if they are male or female— and the difficulty they faced to achieve this domesticity. When their son, Hikari, was born, the family moved to an area better suited for raising children.

☆ Hikari Fujiyoshi (Atsumi Tanezaki) is Hiromu & Masaki’s eldest son. Fiercely protective of his parents, he is quite mature for his age. Adorably sweet & innocent, Hikari loves his parents wholeheartedly. He is overjoyed at the birth of his younger sister, Hinata (Konomi Kohara) and endeavors to become the best big brother possible.

☆ Yuuki Hirai (Taku Yashiro) is the lonely beta college student living next door, to whom Hikari has become rather attached. Tomohiro Matsuo (Kousuke Toriumi) is Hiromu’s friend from work.

The Chemistry- The storyline is wholesome family dynamics, so while we get adorable moments with Hikari & Hinata; the anime always retreats to the full-blown romance between Masaki & Hiromu. Because of his omega status, Masaki feels quite insecure and Hiromu always does his level best to alleviate Masaki’s fears. Even going to the extent of fighting his own father, who doesn’t accept Masaki easily. They make a handsome pairing and Hiromu is a devoted husband. They are actually soulmates (which means they will never mate with anyone else in their entire lifetime again).

Is it a Worthwhile Watch

Having a child who holds you dear and can make you smile in your darkest moments is a blessing!

Hikari is the glue that holds the Fujiyoshi family together. Being an alpha like his Papa, Hikari is quite protective of his Ma-Cha, Masaki. No one is allowed to bully his parents; despite his mature attitude, he is still a child and his funny antics are simply adorable. “Tadaima, Okaeri” is an emotional experience that portrays love, affection and unexpected reconciliations. It is sweet and simply irresistible!
