“The Secret of Us” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

“Our greatest joy and our greatest pain come in our relationships with others.”

– Stephen R. Covey

Ch3 Thailand’s “The Secret Of Us” is an emotional tale of love, heartbreak, and the destructive power of homophobia. Dr. Fahlada Thananusak (Lingling Sirilak) is a highly accomplished doctor, fluent in several languages and affectionately known as the “angel doctor” for her exceptional skills and nice disposition. Working at her parents’ hospital, Dr. Fahlada’s world is turned upside down when she encounters her ex-girlfriend, Earn (Orm Kornnaphat), who broke her heart years ago. As Earn joins the hospital staff, unresolved emotions and painful truths resurface threatening to disrupt Dr. Fahlada’s life once more.

Fahlada and Earn’s relationship begins in a charmingly cute way—they literally bump into each other while walking down the street. Their connection blossoms into a beautiful and supportive romance, showcasing genuine chemistry between the two actors. What makes their relationship especially endearing is their mutual acceptance of one another, loving each other for who they truly are without attempting to change the other person.

However, their love story takes a tragic turn when Fahlada’s homophobic mother discovers their relationship through her intrusive spying and resolves to end it. She manipulates the situation when Earn’s mother falls ill by coercing Earn into breaking up with Fahlada by promising the best medical treatment for her ailing mother and spreading lies about Fahlada dating a man. Earn, devastated and heartbroken, ends their relationship. This leaves Fahlada feeling heartbroken and betrayed by Earn, a feeling that resurfaces when they meet again in the future.

One of the major issues hindering Fahlada and Earn’s relationship is miscommunication. Instead of revealing the truth about Fahlada’s mother’s manipulation, Earn keeps it a secret, even after learning the full extent of Fahlada’s mother’s lies. This secrecy causes Fahlada to remain distant and cold toward Earn. And despite still caring for Earn deeply, Fahlada is working to put up a shield and hurt Earn like she hurt her instead of telling her how being dumped abruptly truly made her feel.

The wounds of heartbreak are still very fresh for both of them.

For Fahlada and Earn to heal and rekindle their relationship, they must communicate and clear up any misunderstandings. It also doesn’t help that two new female characters have been introduced that have shown interest in Fahlada and Earn, respectively. This might add more fuel to the fire. Watching how they navigate these challenges, and whether it means the end or new beginning of their relationship, will be interesting to watch.

“The Secret Of Us” airs every Monday at 10 pm (Thai time) on Channel 3 Thailand. You can stream episodes on Ch3Plus in select areas, and the series is also available on Netflix Thailand.
