We had teasers, trailers and snippets dropping right and left, so we took our sweet time surfing through them to bring you the best. In today’s feature, we will be talking about exclusives which got us intrigued!
Mate the Series
Bookish Veenita States-
It’s raining GLs this year.
Okay not gonna lie, the opening scene thwarted me off guard. Are we still in the toxic GL era? It reminded me of the early BLs where forcing upon one of the pair was almost normalised. And it made me a tad bit uncomfortable.
The plot will have a one sided love triangle, (which means the female lead’s brother falls in love with the female lead’s girlfriend! What a mess!)
An interesting plotline. I am not someone who prefers to see the toxicity but I will give it a chance.
Krishna Naidu States-
This was a messy trailer, to say the least; homophobic rich girl meets her childhood friend who seemingly had crush on her; the said friend decides to pursue her, our rich diva decides to hook up the girl with her brother instead, but ends up falling for in the end (which leads to more family drama). Frankly, this trailer kind of reminds me of “Affair The Series”. Thai GLs seem to be thriving on toxicity these days and this trailer wasn’t any different. They are characteristically choosing stories with toxic elements to adapt, that says a lot about the fandom’s preferences.
Jack and Joker : U Steal My Heart!
Bookish Veenita States-
My most anticipated BL just dropped the official trailer. And it’s everything and more than I wanted. YinWar is coming back with a self produced series. Joker lives with a dual identity, he is actually a well-known thief wanted by police. Jack is a ruthless debt collector but good at heart. And they have a messy past.
And I am here for it. Jack and Joker : U Steal My Heart is airing from September 9 on IQIYI.
Krishna Naidu States-
“Jack and Joker : U Steal My Heart!” brings one of the most celebrated couples in the Thai BL for their third innings together. YinWar star as Jack & Joker, in love-hate relationship as they collaborate on a grand heist. Joker (War) leads a double life. Boastful and talented in conversation, he is secretly a notorious thief wanted by the police. On the other side is Jack (War), an 18-year-old former substitute taekwondo instructor who wanted to open a youth development center. Unknowingly tricked by Joker, Jack’s life turns upside down, and he becomes a debt collector instead. YinWar always had chemistry; but this show banks on its strong storytelling instead of their romance, that’s something new & exciting!
Caged Again
Bookish Veenita States-
Of all the trailers released this week, I loved this one the most.
This one is bizarre but I love the Disney movie-like concept. It has potential. I love the full 5 minutes long trailer. I don’t watch any show based on the looks of the actors but I can say that the lead casts will steal the hearts with their stunning visuals. A fabulous trailer with a really nice and sweet plot.
I will surely be watching it.
Krishna Naidu States-
This was a long awaited pilot which actually fulfilled my anticipation. A penguin falling for a black panther seems to be the premise; we never had a paranormal trope in a Thai BL (if you have watched Twilight, you will understand the concept of were-animals turning into humans better). So, even though the trailer only showcases glimpses of the chemistry between the main leads, I’m rather impressed with the rookie actors. Also, we have Jaonine & Nokia (from “Knock Knock Boys”) making an appearance in this show; I’m not sure if they are paired together, but if they are, it will be a huge bonus.
Let Free The Curse of Taekwondo
Bookish Veenita States-
Last week we talked about this series. And this week they dropped another new short snippet of the trailer. I love the vibes. It’s cute! You can read the summary of the series from the “My Drama List” page and this show is definitely worth keeping on your list.
Krishna Naidu States-
Okay, I’m really impressed with the sassy tones and obvious chemistry in this snippet. Heavenly Global has been dropping these cute teasers for “Let Free The Curse of Taekwondo” and the excitement is considerably high now. The fact that this show is Hwang Da Seul’s comeback makes it even more riveting. Hwang Da Seul is well-known for scripting angsty romances, that are off-the-charts, so will this story be same or will she diverge from the usual? That remains to be seen!
Laplae the Hidden Town
Bookish Veenita States-
Out of all the trailers, this one intrigued me the most. A tribe of strong women rule this secret town. It is their abode and during a certain point of time, they hunt for men to bring forth a new generation. They have their own system, their own rituals, and they will go to lengths to own what they desire.
There are homoerotic sapphic undertones. This is like the Thai version of Amazon warriors living on a secluded island and then collecting men for their own gain, and I am all ready for this series to unfold.
Krishna Naidu States-
After watching “I Feel You Linger in the Air” & “To Sir With Love”, I’m hugely impressed with Thai lakorns, but I’m yet to see one with sapphic undertones. So, this trailer took me by surprise; a matriarchal society where women rule and men are only used to sire the next generation. The trailer has a republican era feel mixed with strange tribal customs; modernity at odds with tradition. The premise seems refreshing, the ensemble casting is unique and the story line seems riveting. I’m totally looking forward to watching this show!
