“Reverse 4 You” First Impressions (Ep.1 to 3)

Jattawa (Mae Methakarn Anektanasuwan) and Vivi (Manao Natnicha Polsombat) are two sisters who possess supernatural powers. Jattawa can control time and Vivi can see into the future. Although the two have lost their parents and are struggling to survive, they make do with each other and are quite happy. When Jattawa sets off to University, Vivi has a premonition that Jattawa is going to meet her soulmate, who turns out to be Four (Christine Gulasatree Michalsky) a notorious 4th year with a bad reputation.

Jattawa tries to dismiss her sister’s vision because she does not believe that Four could be her soulmate, however, it becomes clear that her sister’s visions are never wrong and the invisible bond between Jattawa and Four seems to always pull them together in some way. Jattawa and Vivi’s manage to find an affordable place to stay when their uncle sells their home, and this condo is miraculously next door to Four’s. This leads to Jattawa and Four seeing each other regularly, which helps the two become closer (in proximity).

Four opens up to Jattawa, and she realizes that Four isn’t the real problem, and she is surrounded by people who are always trying to take advantage of her. Four also asks Jattawa for some legal advice and tells Jattawa that she is now her legal counsel, however, some misunderstanding occurs when Jattawa sees Four with another man, who is a family lawyer. Jattawa begins to feel inadequate, however, this is also a lightbulb moment for her and the feelings she is now developing for Four.

While Jattawa is feeling conflicted because Four keeps seeing this lawyer, her friend Khun (Tanggo Thitinan Rattanathitinan) tries to confess his feelings to her, however, to avoid any awkwardness she turns back time and undoes his confession, thereby quickly cutting him off before he has the chance to say it again. We begin to see the shortcomings of Jattawa’s powers because she can only use the time-manipulation sparingly, therefore when Four is involved in an accident minutes later, it is difficult for Jattawa to help her as she has already used the power minutes earlier.

While a lot of fantasy series have glaring plot holes due to inconsistencies in the powers they get, “Reverse 4 You” has not shown us how they plan on developing this aspect of the story, however, the characters, the writing and the acting allows for the audience to suspend their disbelief because of how compelling the show is from the get go. The series does not lean into the powers too much to move the story, but rather on the characters and the romance, which keeps you interested and locked in. The production quality is incredible, and the acting is not so robotic as some Thai GLs can get. This is such a refreshing show, and I hope it maintains its consistency. A must watch for GL fans.
