“Life Echoes” is a short lesbian film about a woman who tries to contact her missing girlfriend with a mysterious medium. The short had its world premiere at the Gilbert Baker Film Festival and is now available on YouTube.
The quiet supernatural drama stars Japanese-Philippina actress Narelle Katsumoto as Asa, whose screen debut “The Voice in My Head” is also playing at the Gilbert Baker Film Festival. It also features AJ Floyd, a well known cosplayer who has over five dogs, and who is making her screen debut as the Medium.
Behind the scenes, Hamish Downie (Matcha & Vanilla) helms the project, and co-wrote the script with well-known horror novelist and renaissance woman, Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc.
Downie says, “The idea behind the project was to act as a companion piece to my existential animated short ‘The Last Anomaly’, which is all I can say without spoiling the film for everyone! All I can say is that it’s a ghost story, but it’s not really a horror film.”
Downie also returns with Paul Leeming as cinematographer and colourist (who makes the Leeming LUT Pro), Felicity Tillack (Impossible to Imagine) as AD, with Deron Reynolds composing the score. The film takes its name from the Reynolds penned track “Life Echoes”, which features on the end credits. It’s a deeply personal song, for a deeply personal film.
Narelle Katsumoto will be next seen in the web series “Marry Me Maki” from creator Hamish Downie. The “Life Echoes” team recently collaborated on the horror short “Nightwalkers Anonymous” based on the short story “A Late Night Out” from Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc, which is now in post.
“Life Echoes” will be a part of an upcoming movie night “Beyond the Frame” in Baltimore on March 22nd at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, hosted by Matt Barry of Low Budget Visions.
