OSAKA, JAPAN 2024. New Short Film from the makers of “Matcha & Vanilla”. Hamish Downie as Writer/Director reteams with Cinematographer Paul Leeming for a new short film.
“The Voice in my Head” is a short lesbian about Mothers and Daughters, specifically about a girl, Isa, who while training for a marathon, plucks up the courage to come out to her Mother.
The short was made at the beautiful Osaka Castle, with Narelle Katsumoto in her screen debut, with Melbourne-based actress Vikki Thomas as the Mother, and a cameo from Tokyo-based actor and comedian Bob Werley. The style of the film was inspired by the Folk Filmmaking/Truly Independent Film movement on YouTube.
Narelle recorded her voiceover herself, while Thea Riley was enlisted to record the dialogue and be 2nd Unit Director in Melbourne for Vikki Thomas. Thea Riley also provided her new song, “Withstand” for the end credits.
“The Voice in my Head” will be screening virtually at the Gilbert Baker Film Festival.
