“First love is only a little foolishness and a lot of curiosity”- George Bernard Shaw
GMMTV steps into the threshold of teenage romance with their new show “Boys in Love”. If you are looking for a show, along the lines of “Make It Right”, “Love Sick 2019” or the current 2025 version, then I don’t think you will be disappointed. The show is no- nonsense, fluffy romance happening in the midst of a school revolution where the Principal has forsaken the old rule of wearing school uniforms. Obviously there are divided opinions, the teachers don’t support his decision while the kids are having a field day wearing whatever they want. Caught in the midst of this social reform is our very studious, very diligent protagonist, Shane. He is dedicated, disciplined and socially awkward. Best caricature of a bookworm who only lives and breathes to better his scores. He lives with his super lazy siblings who don’t contribute much and instead rely on Shane to manage the household needs. Self reliant, Shane has never had any fun or enjoyed his life, being saddled with responsibility. This isn’t just his story, the show neatly packs four different romances in the entirety of each episode. They are riveting, intriguing, and we are seated to watch their individual growth as they embark on a new journey!
Shane & Kit- The New Couple on Rise

Everytime Mick Metas makes an appearance on my screen, I’m riveted by his presence. Especially because he plays a character struggling to make meets end (which is so far stretched from his real life; after all he is heir to a multimillion business). While watching him with Luke Peemsan, I often wondered how it would be if their roles were reversed; and realized that it was unnecessary, because they are quite suited to the characters they play. Mick easily breezes through his performance as Shane. He is focused on his studies, has a serious demeanor towards life and doesn’t appreciate people who laze around, or who take their life for granted. But at the same time, he is slightly lonely and also craves some moments of fun. As against Kit, who is rich, easy going and without any major life goals. He believes in living each day to the fullest. Despite minor glitches and disagreements, we fast-forward to the scenario where they are actually kissing in the second episode itself (that’s right, are there any who didn’t scream watching the buildup to this scene??). Mick & Luke have a sweet chemistry; Shane & Kit manage to bridge the distance between them while balancing their activities.
KimMon- Literally The New Sensation Onboard

For those who are suffering from a major second lead syndrome, welcome to crisis management. Aston Ratiphat as Mon is a bundle of sunshine, bright and full of dimples, albeit a book nerd. Chokun Puttipong (Kim) is the patented “Sunshine Protector”. You must have noticed Chokun first in “My Love Mix-Up!”. Even though his act was commendable, I didn’t feel his chemistry with co-star Pahn Pathitta; as against Aston, with whom he has a comfortable camaraderie. They are quite popular on social media and Chokun is frequently seen making Aston blush with his flirting hysterics. They make an adorable pair and their chemistry is endearing. Right from the moment, Kim sees Mon, it is love at first sight and there is no going back. It would be slow burn if only Kim was whipped for Mon, but it’s not. Because Mon is equally whipped for Kim; you know it when someone buys 45 volumes of Doreamon just because your crush mentioned the book.
Tar-Pep, the Typical “Friends” Couple

After having watched Ken Kanthee (Per) in “The Heart Killer”, I must say his acting has improved. It might be because he is starring opposite actors who are the same age as he is. Also, his new pairing with Paul Tanan (Tar) seems to be working wonders for his acting chops. Per-Tar are the supporting couple, they are best friends with both Shane & Kim. Most of the times, they are the ones handling Kim’s melodramatic behavior. But apart from that, they are quite close to each other, it is a budding romance. You need to watch to figure it out more!
Is it a Worthwhile Watch

“Boys in Love” is a happy-go-lucky saga, more like a “Coming of Age” romance!
It doesn’t specifically focus on romance as much as it pans the lens on their individual growth. Shane learns to loosen up while Kit learns to become more serious. Kim & Mon are already steadfast, sweet and adorable; Kim has quite a few fears and insecurities, but Mon doesn’t notice them. They enjoy each other’s company and that is so refreshing. The first two episodes were enjoyable and I’m looking forward to watching their journey!

The two Opas-iamkajorn boys, in 2GETHER and BOYS IN LOVE, would be a great for an academic class discussing the evolution of the BL genre.
A few short years ago, it took big brother Win portraying a university student an entire season to have a (pretty bad) fish kiss with his boyfriend.
It took little brother Mick, playing a high school student, two whole episodes to be full-on making out with a cute guy (and they haven’t even reached the talking stage of a romantic relationship!)
Times have quickly changed as to what audiences expect and/or are comfortable watching!
