“My Stubborn” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

Have you ever watched a show and thought “This is bad in all good ways, and yet I don’t know where it is headed to?”

Mind boggling yet pretty cliche, M Flow Entertainment’s latest offering “My Stubborn” enters the BL arena with the bull-headed attitude of trashing prior precedents. For shock factor, they start the pilot episode with an over-the-top jerking session. It’s hot, spicy and regrettably sets the tone for most of the show. The show has the distinction of fielding not one but three different couples (2 BL+1 GL). If nothing goes wrong (as is the case with most M Flow productions), then this show might be a surreal experience. The ensemble casting helps as we get a variety of characters, their backstory and budding romance to watch. But there is also this grating sense that something might go wrong. From the first episode, it is obvious that the main leads are going to be projected as an overtly horny couple, it is exciting but too much spice can be offputting. Can the main couple keep up appearances while maintaining their sex appeal? That remains to be seen!

The Horny Main Couple, Voila!!!

If you think kissing is just putting your mouth over someone else’s and sucking like a starving suckerfish, then yeah, it’s terrible!

If Sorn (Boat Yongyut) could impart these pearls of wisdom to every other actor in BL-dom, then maybe we could get scenes where the actors actually know what kissing means. And the teacher that he is, Sorn prefers hands-on experience as against theoretical knowledge. As such, we are treated to randoms scenes of Teacher Sorn manhandling his only student, Jun (Oat Pasakorn). They have this conspicuous, on-off relationship which is as undefined as Sorn’s sexuality. We don’t know if he is heterosexual (because he also has sex scenes with office colleague, Penny), when he isn’t pushing Jun’s buttons. Sorn is also ridiculously daring or bold (I mean what kind of friend has a jerking session with his best friend’s younger brother in their own house). Sorn is also quite possessive about Jun and loves getting into his space as often as possible. Boat & Oat have an unexpectedly hot chemistry, I wasn’t expecting this kind of spark, but they are lit and hot; Sorn & Jun can’t go for 2 seconds without kissing each other or bickering actively; I don’t know which is hotter!!

Kissing Chemistry- 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The Terrible Two’s or More

There might be many who gravitated to this show because of Yoon Phusanu, even though he is playing a supporting couple. After “Unforgotten Night”, where he was paired opposite his now boyfriend, Ton Saran; people have been expecting to see them in a new BL. Unfortunately, the onscreen pairing didn’t continue and Yoon has a new partner, Punpun Punn (Champ). Yoon portrays the role of Tai, who is not only Sorn’s boss but also his best friend. He is also overprotective about his younger brother, Jun. Champ is Tai’s secretary, right-hand man and much more. Despite their obvious attraction, their relationship is also as undefined as Sorn & Jun’s. I tried to look at this pairing with fresh eyes and found them lacking. I’m not sure if it is because I’m a bigger fan of the “YoonTon” ship; or is it because Yoon and Pun seem quite unsettled in their scenes. They look good together but that doesn’t help their chemistry much!

Kissing Chemistry- 🔥🔥

“We Don’t Know What is Going On With Them” Couple

The third pairing is GL and they literally have nothing going on. Penny (Michelle Behrmann) is the hot superior at work who seems to be dating Sorn or maybe they have a “Friends with Benefits” relationship, it is quite unclear at this point. Her love interest, June (Poy Cherlyn) spends most of her time pinning after Penny, observing her from a distance as Penny swings between men and women. The show clearly projects her bisexuality as an afterthought. We don’t know if they will get together, we don’t know when it happens, it is all in the cards??

Kissing Chemistry- 🤔😥😐🙄

Is it a Worthwhile Watch

This is one of those shows that is good in a bad way!

The storyline majorly depends on the hype created by the main couple. Sorn & Jun’s overtly sexual relationship is obviously the highlight, the show revolves around it. Yoon & Champ are an afterthought, sadly they don’t hold your attention much, as against Boat & Oat who have a phenomenal chemistry. If the show was only about Sorn’s attempts to seduce Jun, then it would be a hit. But it involves three different love stories and the pacing seems odd in some places. I wish I could give this show better ratings for Boat & Oat’s sake, but I can’t. If we remove their sensual scenes, there is nothing worth mentioning in this show!

Rating- 3 out of 5
