Someone commented on our Twitter/X post that “We have another Sorn & Jun on our hands” and I laughed out loud because it is so true!!
This show starts with a punch, the pilot episode begins with the main leads kissing each other passionately (*ahem* in a restroom). You are left with questions like “What? How? Why? Who are these two? Where is the character introduction?”. And thus begins this story. Starring Chance & Wang Jyun Hao in lead roles, the story focuses on childhood friends, Han Tuo & Lu Jun Xi. They are actually a trio with Lin Xiao Yang (Lin Yen Tzu). They became friends when ten years ago, Han Tuo moved to their neighborhood. Shy and reserved, Han Tuo didn’t speak much because his mother had abandoned him. That was until Jun Xi gatecrashed into his life, and they became close friends. In the current scenario, Han Tuo grows to become the college heartthrob, moving through relationships at a fastening speed while poor Jun Xi finds it difficult to even confess his feelings to his childhood crush, Xiao Yang (or, so he assumes).
Storyline & Characters

Han Tuo (Chance) and Jun Xi (Wang Jyun Hao) have grown up together since they were kids, and they have a strong friendship. Jun Xi begs Han Tuo to teach him how to confess to their close friend, Xiao Yang. Han Tuo agrees on the condition that Jun Xi should follow through on “WHATEVER” he teaches him. And thus begins a very interesting cat and mouse game. The show will definitely remind you of “My Stubborn”, same vibes, different storytelling. Han Tuo is a very complicated character. As a child, when he moved to their new neighborhood, he was lonely. He didn’t interact much with anyone. It wasn’t until Jun Xi and Xiao Yang befriended him, that he came out of his shell. The fact that he grows up to be a playboy strikes odd. Everything starts from the make believe wedding ceremony that Xiao Yang conducts. Han Tuo always wins the bet and acts as her groom. Everyone presumes that Han Tuo might be into Xiao Yang; but it is just his veiled attempt to keep Jun Xi and Xiao Yang apart. And he continues to do so, until they grow up. So when Jun Xi asks for his guidance to confess his feelings, Han Tuo jumps at this opportunity; he uses this chance to decisively seduce Jun Xi. The poor guy is caught unaware, because one moment they are watching a movie in the theatre; and the next minute, Han Tuo is fondling him, which ultimately leads to a hot makeout session in the restroom later. Jun Xi is left confused, he doesn’t stop Han Tuo per se. When Han Tuo shockingly confesses his feelings, he is left even more confused. Things become more clear when Han Tuo begins to avoid him. Jun Xi starts panicking and thus his true feelings become more clear!
Is it a Worthwhile Watch

Chance & Wang Jyun Hao have an explosive chemistry, they start kissing and you wish they would never stop!
It has been a long time since I thoroughly enjoyed watching a Taiwanese BL. “Secret Lover” will knock you off the ground and leaves you grasping for breath. I’m pretty sure the directive for Chance was that he has to act like he literally wants to eat Wang Jyun Hao; because that’s exactly what he does and Wang Jyun Hao follows through. Their comfort is quite visible in the kissing scenes. Watch this show with your headphones on and avoid public spaces. You never know when Han Tuo might get this sudden urge to kiss Jun Xi!

A lot of terrific BLs debuted this summer. Comparitively this one has a pedestrian plot and is pretty average overall, but it’s the only one that makes me cry in each episode, so a strong 4/5 for me.
Actually playing rock-paper-scissors to determine sexual positions deserves a half-point because that scene was both incredibly sexy and hilarious at the same time! Revised score: 4.5/5
