Gone are the days when BL pairings were resilient and long-standing. In the current era, quite a few popular pairings have fallen apart because of mismanagement or turmoil created by toxic fanbase. In the midst of this chaos, we have some new pairings that are making waves and some old ones, that have stood the test of time!
Saint Suppapong & Poom Nuttapart, My Sweetheart Jom
An entirely new pairing in making, Saint & Poom have an interesting chemistry. Both had significant partners in the past (Saint was popularly paired opposite Perth Tanapon in “Love By Chance” and Zee Pruk in “Why R U?” while Poom was paired opposite Tack Phongsakorn in “The Sign). Both actors had significant popularity with their previous partners, so it was a surprise when a rookie actor was paired opposite a veteran actor like Saint. Many have questioned their chemistry since the show premiered. But SaintPoom choose to spoke through their performances, and they smashed any kind of active criticism. The storyline was unevenly paced and the romance was slow burn, but Saint & Poom build up a formidable chemistry that would keep the audiences invested in this new pairing. The show ends this weekend but surely people will be talking about them for days to come!
Great Sapol & Inn Sarin Ronnakiat, Memoir of Rati
The “GreatInn” combination works well, the genre or tropes don’t matter. If you aren’t convinced, then you should watch their period drama “Memoir of Rati”. Like most historicals who have to stay true to the era they are portraying, this show has the added adage of french language & culture. As an orphan adopted by the French ambassador, Inn has to speak and act as a Frenchman. Managing the diction isn’t an easy job, especially when you have to switch back & forth with Thai. Similarly, Rati has a background that is unwelcome to most Thai elite or nobility. Circumnavigating through their societal mindset and standing up tall isn’t an easy task. But Inn breezes through his performance as Rati. On the other hand, Great is playing a closeted nobleman, Thee who is being forced by his family to marry into nobility. As they get closer, boundaries are crossed as they try to break through the backhanded societal mentality. We don’t know what might happen with Thee & Rati, but GreatInn have a natural chemistry that transcends time & tide!
Zee Pruk & NuNew Chawarin, The Next Prince
Some couple have a serene chemistry while some have a hot chemistry; Zee NuNew have both. They are a scenic couple whose looks complete the package deal. They look good together, when they are acting, their performance get better with time. From “Cutie Pie The Series” to “After Sundown”, Zee and NuNew’s chemistry keeps getting better. Their on-air show “The Next Prince” broke the ratings chart and has been dubbed as one of the most successful shows on IQIYI. The success can be partly attributed to the mechanics- the nuanced storytelling and high budget production. But remaining credit lies with Zee NuNew who are seen in a new dynamic. As the bodyguard, Charan is always subservient to Khanin who is the Prince. But obviously, they spice up things inside the bedroom and the dynamics change. It was refreshing to watch NuNew in this new avatar where his character has a bold, rebellious attitude.
Tian Xu Ning & Zi Yu, Revenged Love
One of the most popular couple on the block, Tian Xu Ning & Zi Yu are charting new territories with their explosive chemistry in “Revenged Love”. When the show premiered, most people were doubtful if the format would be BL or a censored Bromance. Moreover, given the rigid Chinese censorship, no one was expecting the show to remain true to the original. “Revenged Love” broke stereotypical boundaries and became the biggest hit in recent times. Tian Xu Ning & Zi Yu are breezing through their performances, their chemistry is nothing short of phenomenal and there is no hesitation in their kissing scenes; the sensuality that is characteristic of their roles is being portrayed by the actors. Their camaraderie is viable even in the BTS videos and their comfort levels betray their closeness. In an industry which is under strict censorship, Tian Xu Ning & Zi Yu are daring, bold & confident in their portrayals!
Krist Perawat & Singto Prachaya, The Ex-Morning
You might get tired of hearing this, but SingtoKrist are called veterans for a reason. Dubbed as their comeback, “The Ex-Morning” portrayed the actors in a tighter, even closer dynamics. If their chemistry in “SOTUS” was excellent, it has reached new levels in “The Ex-Morning”. You will rarely find an episode where they weren’t kissing; somehow they came back as a stronger couple after years of separation. The show depicts them as strong protagonists with variant thought process. While Tawan is a capable producer, Phi is the “Prince”. His sudden fall from grace makes for an interesting turn of events where ex- lovers reunite. The show’s storyline was quite similar to their reality. The drama had a intriguing format whereby it was shot in the past & present reconcilience. SingtoKrist’s chemistry doesn’t dim in the slightest, even in the scenes where they are bickering like an old married couple. I’m sure many of you enjoyed watching them together after so many years, we sure did!
We will back with the next part of this feature next weekend!
