Currently Airing Thai BLs That Are Making Waves

We have copious amounts of Thai BL making it to the shores. The sudden outbreak could very well be attributed to the fact that same-sex marriages have been legalized in the country. So, while celebrating their freedom to love any person of their choice, BL projects seem to be paving the path for a new society with a modular mindset.

Goddess Bless You From Death

If you have watched “Pit Babe Season One & Two” and hoped to see Pavel Naret in a dominant role whilst Pooh Krittin plays a more submissive character, then “Goddess Bless You From Death” should be your next stop. Watching the pilot episode was a dream come true. Thup (Pooh), an orphan cursed with extraordinary senses is caught unaware in a murder investigation when he is arrested at the crime scene by Inspector Singha (Pavel). The serial murder case is gruesome and Thup is obviously quite suspicious. Yet against his better judgment, Singha is repeatedly drawn to Thap who seems scared by ghosts. The show has the patented Pavel- Pooh chemistry. Even though Singha identifies himself as straight, he is affected by Thap’s vulnerability. The first episode was a total hit, and I’m looking forward to watching Singha protect Thap from every ghostly presence in the surroundings.

Head 2 Head

SeaKeen are back with their third project and they are annoyingly cute. I say so, because I never thought two enemies could be so darn adorable, antagonizing each other. Jerome (Sea Dechchart) & Jinn (Keen Suvijak) are next door neighbors. They have been at each other’s throats for their entire lifetime; except for that little detail where Jinn was rejected by Jerome whilst they were just seven years old. Jerome might have regretted his younger self’s decision, because he spends an awful amount of time following Jinn and annoying him. He steals every other person whom Jinn has a crush on and loves to mock him. But every night, Jerome dreams of Jinn and his dreams aren’t that far from reality. Sea & Keen maintain a perfect balance of antagonistic energy as their characters trade barbs and annoy the hell out of each other. We also have the new supporting couple Surf Patchara (Farm) & Java Bhobdhama (Van) to look forward to!

Me and Who

After watching BigPark in “Monster Next Door”, I wasn’t sure what to expect from “Me and Who”. But the actors came back strong with a power packed performance that keeps you thoroughly entertained. Man of misfortune Phopthorn (Park Anantadej) is reborn in the body of Apo, a billionaire with a handsome Mom Rajawongse fiancé Suriya (Big Thanakorn) who has the power to read minds. Born in a world where he led an impoverished life, Phopthorn is quickly plunged into the life of Apo, his doppelgänger in an alternate universe. As he comes to terms with this fact, he is forced to quickly acclimatize to this change and forms an alliance with Apo’s fiancé Suriya. But as they spend time together, Suriya begins to grow fonder of Phopthorn, who is exactly the opposite of Apo. Park’s exaggerated attempts to impersonate Apo are hilarious and over-the-top. While Suriya presents a strong front as a mind reader, it is this very ability that makes him venerable. Big & Park’s chemistry has improved a lot and this is very much their best performance yet!

Mystique in the Mirror

The show literally redefines its name and the storyline straight away plunges you into a chaotic world where the central character suffers from memory loss or so, he is lead to believe. Alan (Tou Sedthawut) is haunted by the image of a strange old man every time he looks in the mirror. The old man repeatedly asks him to “Remember” but Alan is unaware of what he has forgotten. His supposed delusional behavior causes a rift between him & his father. One day, their arguement escalates beyond measure and the next day, Alan wakes up in a psychiatric hospital with no memory of traveling there. There, Alan meets Darwin (Pentor Jeerapat), the guy in the room next door, and they soon become close as Alan is suspicious of the hospital staff. The storyline is a nice mix of horror & mystique. It makes you question the issues faced by the main character; is Alan really delusional? Is he really seeing things or is the old man a ghost? Tou does a commendable job of portraying Alan’s confusion, fears and despair. You should definitely check this out!

That Summer

WinnySatang’s first major project as main leads & they are already killing it. You can grasp the extent of a couple’s popularity when despite being secondary leads in a show, audiences pay special attention to them. From playing second fiddle to being mains, it has been a phenomenal journey for Winny & Satang. “That Summer” stars Winny Thanawin as a delinquent, Lava. He is a troublemaker, quite temperamental. As he keeps getting into trouble, Lava’s mother sends him to live with his young uncle by the beach, and he’s immediately put to work. One day, he finds a man washed up on the shore. At the hospital, the man is diagnosed with amnesia and his uncle volunteers Lava as his caretaker. Lava names him Wave (Satang Kittiphop) and reassigns all his duties to the stranger. Wave is surprisingly fussy and inept at manual labor, hinting at a pampered past. Since we already get a glimpse into Wave’s past life, we know he is a Prince (of a fictional nation). As they work together, feelings blossom. Winny & Satang have a raw chemistry, quite natural & entertaining. Another highlight of this show is the newly minted pairing of Mond Tanutchai (Peng, Lava’s Uncle) & Ryu Phudtripart (Dr. Wut). They are equally addictive!

The Cursed Love

A fantasy drama with supernatural elements, “The Cursed Love” has won my heart. Young model and billionaire Siwat (Ongsa Tthuchh) embarks on a secret quest to get rid of his uncontrollable fire powers. He was born with those powers and his adoptive father died while trying to find a way to uplift the curse. Siwat’s search leads him to Khunkhao’s (Au Kittipon) homestay. Khunkhao works as a forest ranger and is immensely protective of the forest expanse, which is believed to hide the ancient city of Tambralinga. Also, he believes that Siwat’s father was responsible for the death of his own & loathes him. But as they spend time together, Siwat begins to recollect his past life’s memories where they were Benders and Rulers of Tambralinga. Siwat was Suraya, the Fire Bender and Khunkhao was Asuni, the Wind Bender. Together, they embark on a journey to rediscover Tambralinga while trying to find the secrets behind the ruin of the city. Ongsa & Au have a decent chemistry and the storyline is gripping!

The Love Never Sets

After having seen Ja Phachara with First Chalongrat, it is difficult to imagine him in another pairing. Also, the show head dives you straight into chaos. The storyline is centered around Ice (Tae Weerapat). Ice was Saint’s (Ja Phachara) tutor and they quickly developed feelings. But Saint’s homophobic father put a brake to their budding romance by cutting off communication between the two and sowing discord. Consequently, at the same time, Ice is raped by his Professor Mint, who records the act. Ice drops out of school and because of his family debts, he is forced into the adult film industry. Now, as he returns to school and Ice is set to shoot a gay-themed film, with his co-star being none other than Saint. When the two meet again, Ice confronts Saint with his pent-up resentment. Ja & Tee have an unsettling chemistry, I think it’s going to take me some more time to get invested in them!

The Wicked Game

If you are a diehard DaouOffroad fan, then “The Wicked Game” should be your next stop. Already in their third project, this couple’s chemistry just keeps getting better & better. Also, unlike their prior projects, “The Wicked Game” has a better storyline and an excellent script. Former police officer Than (Daou Pittaya) takes a gig guarding Pheem (Offroad Kantapon), the youngest son of a private hospital owner. Pheem has been shunned by his father’s family because of his illegitimate status and is back to seek revenge on them. Than is an easygoing, straightforward guy. As he gets closer to Pheem, he finds the man to be quite the opposite of him—cold and cunning. There is a nice contrast between the characters. Than is kind & caring but Pheem is extremely calculative. Despite that, he seems to be falling for Than. As for Than, he has abundant reservations about Pheem’s scheming nature, and yet he can’t stop worrying about him. The romance is addictive and the actor’s chemistry is chef’s kiss. Do not miss out on this one!
