“Me and Thee” First Impressions (Ep.1 to 3)

I’m absolutely appalled by the fact that I forgot to review this show!

It might be attributed to the fact that the drama is so entertaining, that I almost forgot to mention it. This is obviously a character driven, comedic show. But it would fall apart, without intriguing characters and riveting storyline. Firstly, I must insist that PondPhuwin’s role reversal is quite interesting. If you have been following their works consistently over the year, you would know that Pond mostly portrays mature, serious roles while Phuwin is mostly playing carefree, funny roles. That has been their constant rapport, but “Me and Thee” goes out of its way to drive them in different directions. I wasn’t sure if it would work; I mean imagine watching Pond play a goofy, Lakorn crazy mafia boss. I mean, even the mafia part is acceptable, but playing a character who mouths cringey romantic lines from a show that was decades old, you can’t comprehend Pond embodying such a character and yet, he does. I never thought he could have such a good comic timing, and he proved me wrong. As against Pond, Phuwin plays a role that is more mature, calm & composed. While Thee is like an unapproachable tidal work, Peach is like the waves, silent and welcoming!

The Endearing Romance That is Addictive

This is a classic adaptation, I haven’t read the book, so I’m not sure how much of the original translates into the live-action. The story is centered around the larger than life mafia boss, Thee (Pond Naravit). He is arrogant, over-the-top, unhinged, loves watching Thai lakorns and is quite out of touch with the value of a baht. An unexpected encounter leads him to photographer Peach (Phuwin Tangsakyuen). Peach is kind, caring and quite mature as against Thee’s melodramatic personality. Although he first meets with Peach to learn more about his company’s ambassador, Aran; spending time with Peach, makes Thee fall for him instead. The only glitch is that Peach still hasn’t realized that Thee is pursuing him instead of Aran. Their interactions make for some very hilarious, dramatic scenes. Because Thee’s entire personality screams opulence and grandeur, even his gestures are on a grand scale. There is no in between, and he does some really odd things to get Peach’s attention, who is absolutely unaware that the mafia boss is falling for him.

The Supporting Couple With A Story of their Own

Even though they are playing a supporting couple here, Tawan (Perth Tanapon) & Aran (Santa Pongsapak) have a formidable chemistry. I guess they can’t tone it down, even when they are playing a couple on the verge of separation. Both are models and have had an on- off relationship for years. The show doesn’t touch on what exactly their problem is, but the chemistry is there, and you can’t help but hope that they quickly reconcile. At least that is what Thee hopes for, because he wants to keep Aran as far away from Peach as possible.

Is it a Worthwhile Watch

It is, if you are looking for comedy with hilarious characters!

Even Thee’s secretary/bodyguard/close friend Mok (Est Supha Sangaworawong) can’t stop rolling his eyes at Thee’s melodramatic antics. Pond’s comic timing is excellent, the mad gleam in his eyes whenever Thee gets some new crazy idea and his overdramatic attitude will leave you rolling in laughter. Phuwin plays his character with a charisma that is admirable. They make an endearing couple, and I’m looking forward to watching their romance!
