“The Story of Bi Hyeong: Enchanted Master of the Goblin” is a Korean BL that stands out as one of the most genre-blending dramas of 2025, mixing Korean folk tales, slow-burn romance, and a bit of tension into a story that feels both ancient and modern. While the series is loosely based on a mythological tale drawing inspiration from the folklore surrounding Bi-hyung, the Goblin King, I am not familiar with the tale and will not attempt to write it, as I am afraid I might mistakenly add something different.
Bi Hyeong (Hwang Jae Wook), is a spiritual being or Goblin King tasked with maintaining balance, has lived for centuries carrying out responsibilities that leave no room for desire, identity, or personal longing. But everything changes when he crosses paths with Geum Bok (Lee Cha Min), an independent but emotionally guarded man who because of unexpected circumstances is forced to live with Bi Hyeong. A hilarious misunderstanding results in him getting stuck between three mystical creatures who are obsessed with him. Their encounter results in a chain of events that pulls them into a conflict bigger than both of them, one that results in a comedic course of action.

This show presents its story in a unique and engaging manner. I wish it had explored its themes with more detail and less haste, as it feels little bit rushed; it clearly had great potential. Supernatural themes are rare in BL dramas, and the last exceptional one I recall was “Guardian,” though it shifted to bromance due to Chinese censorship. With greater attention to detail and production, this series could have been one of the standout Supernatural BLs. In my opinion, allowing the supernatural elements to highlight the show would have been the best thing.

Overall, it was a cute, one-time binge-watching show with surpringly steamy scenes, but we get the surprise in the start itself.
