BL Week in Review (BL 2025 Wrapped: My Top 10 Series)
Hi everyone,
The year 2025 has officially come to a close, and so has my sojourn with The BL Xpress. Before I count down my top ten series of 2025, thank The BL Xpress for the opportunity to write for them. It’s been fun, and I got to do so many new things.
2026 is going to be a year full of new things. BL Week in Review will be moving to my Patreon account. I will continue to give regular updates. The only difference is that it will be on Sundays instead of Tuesdays. Additionally, I am starting a blog. I’ve decided to call it Memoirs of a BL Fangirl.

BL Mini-Bytes
We had fewer announcements last week, because of the new year festivities. But worry not, sooner than later; the BL/GL industry will be delivering updates!
Top Ten BL Actors- My Personal Favorites (2025)
An actor’s caliber rests on his ability to command the audience’s attention. 2025 saw a sudden rise in BL dramas and as such, the focus has shifted to intelligent storytelling and smart casting. Gone are the days, when popular actors could drive the ratings for a show. These days, audiences focus more on quality than quantity. If the show is mediocre, not even the most popular actor’s inclusion could save it!

“A Nice Indian Boy” Movie Review
What an enchanting and funny movie this is! In addition to being so relatable to everyone even though it is centered around an Indian family. The issues that arise may seem unique to the Indian culture but candidly, they are not. Predicaments with parents and family dynamics are universal and are culturally neutral. That is what made this movie so captivating. It can be universally understood (except by the homophobes, of course) and they gave us a splash of Bollywood at the end!
“Lover Merman” Series Review (Ep.1 to 8)
Frankly, I am not sure how I sat through this miscue. It is an inferior story with pedestrian acting. There I said it and am glad I did. I just do not know when these sappy BLs will end. This is yet another in a L-O-N-G line of them. What saved this series from being on my Worst List is the cinematography. The water scenes are exceptional, but there are not nearly enough of them. If you are going to have a story about mermen, how about showing more of them and their communion? Also, I like the idea that mermen could live on land and become a part of regular human society. The notion that during the full moon, mermen HAD to go back into the ocean to cleanse themselves of their ‘toxins’ was quite intriguing, and I found that to be a nice twist to the story. Further, one figure, and a minor one at that, altogether makes this series worth watching, overall, for the depth of his characterization and his intense understanding of the persona he was portraying.
“Dare You to Death” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)
What do you get when you mix a rivals-to-lovers trope with a murder mystery and a cast full of secrets? A series that promises tension, intrigue, and emotional sparks, even if it hasn’t fully decided what kind of story it wants to be yet.
