“Peach Lover” is a Thai BL Series featuring Ki Niwat and Poom Nuttapart as lead characters. The story is about Po, who is a big fan of “Peach lover,” the owner of an 18+ sensul account, and Sasom, who is the owner of the said account. When Peach Lover comes back after a long time and announces that he is searching for a new “Peach” as a companion for his account, Po decides to apply, and thus their journey begins.
From the pilot episode itself, “Peach Lover” makes it very clear that this is not a regular BL but has new elements and it is mostly for an 18+ audience, in which the story and plot are meant to shock the audiences to gain their attention. Yes, the plotlines try to flirt with taboo topics that are deemed immoral, but the first two are surprisingly tamed in my opinion and emotionally curious. Instead of rushing into the heat, around which the story revolves, I feel that the show leans more into creating tension, and that choice pays off. I feel that if we are catering to an audience of a certain genre and we want them to be immersed in the story, there must be some mystery, especially in the first few episodes, to create a sense of mystique and uncertainty.

Po is instantly relatable and gives off the vibe of being a hardcore fan of something or someone, in this case. His transition from being die hard fan to being a participant felt like a dream come true for him; but for us, it comes off as a little cringey yet sincere. His character has a kind of vulnerability and sincerity that I really liked. Sasom, on the other hand, is mysterious and hard to understand, which I like because, as I said, I like some mystery. The pilot episodes don’t bring a lot out in the story yet, but I have some good expectations from the show. I feel that judging the show after watching the first two episodes is not fair and honestly, it has good strength. For fans of BJ Alex, the Korean BL manhwa, it may feel little familiar but different. Like the universe has some similarity, but there is too much difference, so no need to compare.

Their chemistry isn’t immediate, it’s chaotic, vulnerable, and awkward, but in a good way, which feels quite refreshing.
