“Clairebell” Series Review (Ep.3 to 8)

During my initial review, I stated that I had high hopes for this show and that I will be on the lookout for consistency in the delivery of the show. And…I have thoughts.

Well, I have to say the portrayal of the prison system and practice is getting me annoyed. A lot of it is wrong. They do not fully capture the essence of prison. Sometimes it’s perfect- like the part where Claire (Mable Siriwalee) is getting released and other times…the prisoners feel like a girls’ hostel rather than a prison. There are barely any restrictions on moving. The mean girl’s archetype. The occasional shots of color surrounding Deedee. And the 5000 ethics violations…

Maybe I am not seeing the purpose of it. Maybe I’m seeing it in a pessimistic way. Maybe I forgot it is actually a love story…

OK, I went in a different direction. Back to critical evaluation.

The plus points that keep consistent are the acting and the absolute best cinematography. And the occasional presence of a pond is just cherry on top. Especially the part where he runs around his home drunk. But that’s expected of him – it’s a pond after all.

The story does take quite a few turns I didn’t expect. I expected the story to focus more on how to get Bell (Pangjie Paphavarin) out of prison. But instead we get a backstory of Claire. I’m not disappointed. Just surprised. I also expected 3D to be a lot more scary, but would they end up being more funnier??

That being said, I absolutely love the moments between Claire and Bell. The sweet moments and the sexy moments (which were wonderful). And the process from beginning to end is superb. The friends of the beginning become the foe while the foes become friends. The scary Dao ends up becoming a victim. But something ends up coming full circle. Claire the rabid dog becomes rabid dog again. Porsche the failure son, becomes a failure son again. Kae the loner becomes a loner again.

I said in my first impressions that it would be the KinnPorsche of GLs. And now I do see it. The vibe is very KinnPorsche. And I hope this means we will see an upgrade and more seriousness in the creation of GLs.

Plus, they’re sponsored by the same bread company.
