“The Leopard Cat Scholar Season Two” Series Review (Ep.1 to 20)

What happens when a thousand-year-old cat demon and a doctoral student team travel through time, to uncover the truth behind a past family massacre?

Wang Yi Zhou & Xie Xin Hao return to reprise their roles in the sequel, albeit with a twist. If you have watched the prequel, then you would know that the cat demon sacrifices himself to save Tao Ran. Centuries later, they reunite while Tao Ran is searching for Wang Hao Zhi. Their reunion involves another murder mystery, which forces them to travel through time. They have their individual strengths and powers, but will they be helpful to each other & can they survive the test of time?

The Storyline & Chemistry-

The cat demon gets enshrined into a rock after sacrificing himself to save Tao Ran. He wakes up centuries later, when Wang Hao Zhi reincarnates. Coincidentally, Hao Zhi is murdered at the same spot and the cat demon possesses his body. When he returns to their ancient academy, he realizes that centuries have passed and the academy has been turned into a university. Shockingly, he steps into the library and meets Tao Ran, who has become immortal because of his special heart. They are forced to time travel through a book written by Tao Ran. They repeatedly travel through time to uncover the truth behind Wang Hao Zhi’s murder. Wang Yi Zhou & Xie Xin Hao’s chemistry shines throughout the sequel. Their love & affection for each other remains unchanged.

Final Impressions

The storytelling and execution is better this time, and the subtitles are bearable!!

The storyline shifts to a modern era, the production value is definitely better than the prequel. The repetitive time travel seems fuzzy, and we never learn about what happened to the antagonist. The show has an open ending, so there is scope for a potential third season. But we can’t be sure the actors will return for a third season. If they do, then the story could pan out more!!
