“Cosmetic Playlover Season Two” Series Review (Ep.3 to 10)

When two individuals grow beside each other, it needs a lot of love & even more patience to sustain the relationship!!

While the first season was focused on establishing their romance, Sahashi Toma (Toyoda Yudai) and Mamiya Natsume (Okuno So) have a lot of growing up to do this season. Obviously, a story doesn’t end when two people fall in love and get together. It begins there, the relationship goes through ups and downs as both individuals pursue their own professional growth. Clearly, Season Two was aiming for professional development instead of personal growth. There are moments when the storyline seems unnecessarily dragged, but the lead actors manage to sustain the show with their cute chemistry!!

The Storyline

In Season Two, Natsume decides to become the number one BA at their company, Toma wants to become the number one makeup artist at Romy Feerique. Toma is chosen for training by the top makeup artist, Emma (Kato Rosa). She sees potential in Toma’s unwavering skills and wants to choose him as one of her successors. Initially, Toma is hesitant about the possible two-year separation, but Natsume encourages him and Toma throws himself into this life-changing challenge. Natsume has his own dreams to conquer, as he gets a new BA at the Romy Feerique store. Hoshino Riku (Nakagawa Tsubasa) is a bundle of nerves; it takes a lot of persuasion & training to help him perfect his skills. Natsume offers sound advice & clears his doubts whenever possible. He also begins to explore the possibility of becoming a trainer. It might be soon, but his former chief believes that Natsume might become an excellent trainer for budding BA professionals. While counting the days until his departure to Paris, Natsume & Toma make the most of their time together. Season Two ends with a somber proposal as Toma leaves for his training!

Final Impressions

The show was so focused on their individual professional struggles that the lead pair had too little screen time together!!

The show’s popularity hinges on the lead couple’s endearing chemistry. Given the fact that they didn’t have major disagreements this season, their relationship seemed lackluster and boring. The sequel showcases their growth as professionals, their abilities to tackle problems at work, but it fails to exhibit the cute moments in their relationship, which is actually the real reason to watch this show. With their two-years separation on the horizon, the series might be headed for another season. Although, I’m not sure what would transpire then!!
