The current trend in the Thai BL industry is adapting popular novels. Avid fans are so focused on reimagining their favorite textbook characters that a lot is lost in transition. Adaptations are easy to come by, but very directors have the calibre to adapt a good novel to awe-inspiring cinema. “Be Mine SuperStar” Director David Bigander is one of those few filmmakers. The Swedish-Thai auteur has a multifaceted personality; as a screenwriter and director, he has worked on several ambitious projects like Bite Me, My Sassy Girl & Rose In Da House. Currently, he is working on the upcoming drama “Be Mine SuperStar”, which is one of the most anticipated releases of 2023. “The Love Ring” Movie Review

This soft, well-meaning and very short BL drama is obviously a labor of love coming from Myanmar. And it should be applauded for its courage, message, and commitment to equality and gay rights. No less important is its passion towards seeing love as all-encompassing. But be forewarned. This is not a series for all. If you want the fancy, drawn-out, splashy, big production, then move on. Because this is not it. The production is simple and basic; the acting, though a bit inconsistent. But I believe it is an early and very beautiful attempt to introduce BL into a culture not known for its openness to such a concept.

With Korean BLs on the rise, March saw an unprecedented increase in the number of BL dramas. “Our Dating Sim”, “A Shoulder to Cry On” and “Unintentional Love Story” are dominating the current scenario with their niche storytelling and phenomenal casting.
