An actor’s caliber rests on his ability to command the audience’s attention. 2025 saw a sudden rise in BL dramas and as such, the focus has shifted to intelligent storytelling and smart casting. Gone are the days, when popular actors could drive the ratings for a show. These days, audiences focus more on quality than quantity. If the show is mediocre, not even the most popular actor’s inclusion could save it!

Happy New Year, everyone, and with the new year, big changes are afoot. Next week will be my last article and live for The BL Xpress. It’s been a joy writing for them this year, and I wish them well in all their future endeavors.
While BL as a genre evolves, so do the consistent pairings. Fan service remains an inevitable choice, there are multiple fandoms with their own favorites (even I belong to one such fandom). There’s always so much happening in the world of BL, particularly Thai BL, that it’s hard to keep up. Nevertheless, one event that had X abuzz this weekend was Starlympics, GMMTV’s major sporting event and concert. I saw one post saying that over 100 artists performed, which is crazy. I don’t know how they jam-packed it into one day, but they did! There are plenty of fancams on YouTube and X, so be sure to check them out.
It has been excruciating year, in terms of BL production. The Asian subcontinent is churning shows & movies at a speed that is incomprehensible. It could be attributed to the fact that Thailand as the largest producer of queer content has found the liberty to legalize same-sex marriage. It was difficult to choose a select few for this list; I had to let go of quite a few shows to compile this feature. But here we are, so enjoy the feast!

First, I found that “Love at First Spike”, a Filipino queer series, is currently available on YouTube. Be sure to check it out. I was curious enough that I watched episode 1 on the iWantTFC app while it was airing, and it had a great start.
This week was crazy with a capital C. I started my yearly countdown, and let me tell you, it has been a bit intense on the social media front. The two hashtags are #BLFavs2025 and #BL2025Wrapped. Both are super fun, and I’m so glad I can contribute something to the community. That being said, this article is shorter than usual.
Christmas came early for me last week with the reveal of the 2026 and beyond lineup for GMMTV. They gave us thirty queer stories. Twenty-two were BL, eight were GL, and one was a stage musical. Having that many series revealed also came with a certain amount of controversy.
My favorite Thai company, GMMTV, announced two highly anticipated series that are going to premiere soon. “Burnout Syndrome” and “Melody of Secrets” have been on my must-watch list since I saw their mock trailers at previous lineup events, and I’m so curious to see how they play out. “Burnout Syndrome” starts on Wednesday, and “Melody of Secrets” begins on December 5. I have a good feeling about these two.
