“HIStory3 Trapped” Series Review

HIStory 3 Trapped is one of those series that grabs your attention in the beginning and doesn’t disappoint you throughout.

It is not just another BL but is a revenge saga full of is murder, hatred, sorrow, forgiveness and love. One of my ALL-TIME favorites; I have watched this drama about six times already, and each time I find new things to like and love about this one. Jake Hu and Chris Wo play the titular roles of Meng Shao Fei and Tang Yi. Meng Shao Fei is a cop and Tang YI is a mob boss. They are total opposites in every way – Meng Shao Fei is convinced that Tang Yi killed his cop friend; as Tang Yi was the only survivor of a brutal murder attempt that took killed both his mentor and Shao Fei’s cop friend. Although Tang Yi refutes the same, Shao Fei doesn’t believe him.

While mourning the loss of his friend for four years, Meng Shao Fei has been searching for evidence to prove that Tang Yi is the killer; with no luck. The chemistry between Jake HU and Chris Wu is undeniable — they are PERFECT together and each one of them plays their role well. During one of those instances, Meng Shao Fei and Tang Yi are handcuffed together. They get lost in the woods after another failed kidnapping attempt. Things change between them, as Tang Yi begins to look at Meng Shao Fei differently.

These two go through a lot of trials and tribulations in this drama. Tang Yi comes to terms with who his father was and figures out the identity of his mother. Our sweet couple argue, compete and fall for each other. So much conflict, one is a cop who needs to uphold the law; while the other is a mob boss trying to legalize his business’s and removing all connections related to drug mafia. Meng Shao Fei is assigned to protect Tang Yi, and he almost loses his life. While Shao Fei is recuperating in the hospital, Tang Yi visits him and while taking a walk, Meng confesses his feelings. Later, Tang Yi returns to the hospital, walks into Shao Fei’s room and kisses him in turn. It was epic fun to watch the bewildered faces of Shao Fei’s friends, while it ends in heartbreak for the colleague who has always liked Shao Fei.

Watching the two develop feelings for each other was very sweet and it made me smile a lot. They slowly realize that they like each other, which eventually leads to love. The entire time, I was jumping in joy. The little things they do for each other is adorable to watch. Like Shao Fei baking a cake for Tang Yi on his birthday. His earnest efforts touch Tang Yi’s heart and I cried happy tears because WOW it was beautiful. While others try to destroy Tang Yi’s happiness, Meng Shao Fei cares about him deeply. Like Tang Yi’s assistant who becomes obsessed with him, although Tang doesn’t return the feelings. What happens next is messed up, but Shao Fei is there every step of the way to protect Tang Yi and his sister. I loved the way they worked together to solve the crimes while learning about each other.

I do have to mention the second couple; Zhao Li An, portrayed by Kenny Chen and Jack played by Andy Bian. While Zhao is a naive, sweet and innocent cop, Jack is a killer for hire. Although Jack mostly acts tough in all situations, his entire demeanor changes when he is around Zhao Li An. They are my favorite couple to be honest, I adore the way they are playful and flirtatious. While Meng Shao Fei and Tang Yi’s pairing is more sweet but controlled; Jack and Zhao are delightful and light-hearted with their romance. When I watched this show for the first time, I fell in love with Zhao Li An. He is so freaking adorable. Jack is the perfect match for him.

There are a lot of side plots and stories in this drama, but they all make sense once you get completely engrossed. My most favorite scene is when Meng Shao Fei goes missing for an entire day. He returns home to find that Tang Yi has left a lot of voicemails and messages for him. While he listens to them and reads the text messages; Tang Yi is left embarrassed. Meng Shao Fei however is elated to know Tang Fei was worried about him. That scene will be forever etched in my memory!

If you like BL’s with a dash of action, then this one’s definitely for you!

The only thing I didn’t like was the side story involving the chief. I was hoping that it had a different outcome. But the way this series ends, I don’t know why that fragment bothers me so much. Despite that, I truly love HIStory 3 Trapped and I know you will also!
